These Rusty's Off-Road control arms are driving me crazy. I have taken them apart, cleaned and greased them numerous times and still have annoying squeaking. Rusty's only advice was to be sure that the control arms adjustable screw in plate was tight. That didn't solve the problem. I don't mind doing routein maintenance and keeping them lubed, but I WANT CONTROL ARMS THAT DO NOT SQUEAK!

Who has double Johnny Joint control arms that are quiet?

Do the rustys have a chrome finish or some type of plating on them?

If so, this is what is causing it.

For whatever reason the Johnny Joint Clones that have the plating squeek like mad usually.

I would strip the plating off. Just not sure how tight they will be in the race once you do that.

:cheers2:

The Rusty's Johnny Joint clones don't have a chrome or other type of plating on them. I am thinking that the material used for the two circular inserts that surround the ball-type joint are the problem. Are Currie control arms ($$$) the only ones that are sure NOT to squeak?

I have the trail-gear joints, no squeaking at all. I have been running them for 2 years, I just grease them when I change my oil

Maybe you should actually buy Johnny Joints, not Rusty's knock off flex-joints.

Johnny Joints are a product designed & sold by Currie Enterprises.

Are the expensive Currie flex joints the only non-squeaking control arm option?

Who makes the trail-gear joints and does anyone else have them or other good options?

I have heard that Rokmen uses actual Currie Johnny Joints in their control arms, so I would assume that these would be as quiet as the Currie's. Does any one else use genuine Currie joints in their control arms that are less expensive than Currie or Rokmen?

Trail-gear.com has them. I think they are called creeper joints if you were gonna do a search for them. Mine have seen both on and offroad use for the last 2 years with no squeaking/ noise at all. I can't stand rattles or squeaks

I have Rough County X-Flex joints. Keep them greased and they have been just fine.

I agree that Currie JJ's are the best though. If you can afford it go with Currie.
I have the x-flex RC arms and am already getting a squeek from one of them. Haven't tried greasing it more yet...

Currie, Rokmen, and Clayton are the 3 companies that I can think of that use Currie Johnny Joints. I am sure there are others, but those seem to be the most popular. Rokmen used to make an arm with an OEM bushing at one end, but I do not see those listed on their website anymore. I believe the Clayton arms are still JJ and rubber bushing though.

As for price, you have already "saved money" by purchasing the Rusty CAs that you are now complaining about. There is a reason that the companies who are often considered the best in the industry, are using the Johnny Joint. Either spend the money on the best, or deal with bushing failures, squeaks, harsh ride, etc.

Disclaimer: I do not in fact have experience with any aftermarket CA. I do however believe in doing it right the first time, and I will be purchasing my lift in the next few weeks. Currie Arms will be on my Jeep by the end of May.
