I know it's fairly new, but has anyone used this kit yet?

What kind of cutting is required?

How do the 30 spline axle shafts work with the stock setup?

I was always interested in a Super 35 kit, but didn't want the rear locker and the cost to set it up, this seems to be a good, middle-ground type of kit, that I could do in the garage.

Any other info regarding the kit would be great.

Thanks:thumbsup:

The ad copy is incorrect. The old sales and marketing guy at Superior took the ad for the Super 88 and just substituted the words D-35 for Super 88.

It should read that there is no cutting, you have to drill two new holes in the housing end flanges and they supply the correct drill bit. The drilling is easy because you use the new housing ends as a guide.

The chrom-moly axles are 27 spline stock replacements.

It exactly a middle ground DIY in the garage in a few hours, kit.

- Stronger axle shafts
- Eliminates need for c-clips to retain axle.

If you were to break an axle shaft, with this kit, it would make it easier to get off the trail or at least to a better spot to work on the problem.

No tires falling off/axles sliding out.
No logs strapped to the side of your heep.

Is there any way someone can post a link to the install instructions or send a copy to my email. I'm trying to guage whether or not this is an install I can handle on my own or will need a pro. Seeing the instructions will help. Thanks

Blaine, would you recommend this kit for 35's or would that be pushing the envelope? My presumed dream setup for this and the D30 would be the c-clip elims with a super 30 or chromos. Aussie in front and true-trac in the back with 4.56.

OK, first, I have the Super 35 kit in the back (with C-clip eliminator and an Eaton E-Locker in my case) with 35x12.5's and haven't had a problem yet, despite bouncing it all over the place tackling big ol' rocks. Knock on wood. And if I ever do blow it up, hey, there's a 2 year warranty, so I get new stuff.

Now the Truetrac choice I can't understand, honestly.

I am doing re search on this as we speek. I am looking to upgrade my current axles and saw on superiors site they sell a set for 260.00. 30 spline. I am not interested in a locker either, BUt I do want stronger axles. Is the c clip eliminator kit really nessasary for a daily driver. I am thinking since I upgraded the axles, I shouldnt have a problem with broken axles.

the c-clip eliminator clip which keeps the stock carrier or 27 spline locker is around 600 bucs i got it and installed it with 2 friends in my garage in afew hours. the super 35 is around 1200 because of the locker and would need the gears reshimmed. idk if there is a 30 spline c clip eliminator kit with locker that would probably be around 1500 or more but i havent heard of a 27 spline kit broken yet so hopefully im not the first

Someone earlier had a thread with a link for $870 with an auburn ected spline kit. For that price you could sell the auburn and get a locker of choice.

Yeah, but why the Truetrac? Why not pretty much anything else, especially an actual selectable locker? I don't know what kind of wheeling you're doing, but any LSD is worthless as soon as you get a wheel off the ground, and it's only marginally worthwhile otherwise. I mean, if it happened to already have one when you bought it, I can see deciding to cheap out for a while and run it as-is until you finally decided it was worth it to upgrade, but to pay money for a new one to install instead of putting that money toward anything else I guess is what I don't understand.

at least in my case, having a locker up front is more beneficial than in the rear. i have an aussie up front. RC Rocks Class 1 rules are one locker, front or rear. I already have one in the front that i am happy with. That means in the back I can run a trutrac, factory lsd, or an open carrier. Of those 3 options, the trutrac provides the most torque to the wheel with traction. I have a factory LSD now and it works ok but there was a line i was trying this past weekend where both wheels were on the ground but one was on a rock and one was on dirt. the wheel in the dirt spun, the wheel on the rock turned a little but not much and i didn't make the line. a trutrac would have sent more torque to the wheel on the rock. i understand most people aren't building their rigs to meet class rules, but i was presenting one instance where someone would choose a trutrac. hope that makes sense.

EDIT: thats also why i am interested in the 27 spline cce over the 30 spline. yes 30 spline would be stronger but i would have to use a locker, which i can't do. Class 1 is 31"-33" tires and the 27 spline kit should be fine on 33s even with the way i wheel, from what i have read.

ways of making them lock up, if you apply the brakes it will help to transfer more power to the slipping wheel. a lot of people do this for the rear axle with the emergency brake. i'm not sure of the exact physics of it but it helps a little with my factory lsd and i would imagine it works better with a gear-type lsd like the trutrac.

Marylandjeeper, pretty much told you what you needed to know. I don't see how else I could expand on that aside from that in snowy/icy/slick and daily driving conditions the LSD will sit a locker on it's *** as far as overall performance goes.

You may scream, "Selectable!" But, when it isn't locked it's still just an open diff that is still inferior to the LSD. Living in VA at the moment, an LSD in my full time axle is a lot more beneficial to me in most of the terrain than any locker could be. If I lived somewhere with no snowfall, then a selectable would out-weigh the benefits of the LSD in a DD rig and in a purely trail rig it would be the better choice. However, that is not the case. Hence, my comment, "In certain types of terrain,..." Certain types of terrain being the state of Virginia during the winter.

Aside from that, I thought brake torquing the LSD was pretty much common knowledge to those that have any say-so when it comes to speaking on drive-trains. Even car guys do it.

c clip

Hi there I recently installed the eliminator clip in my 35 with the 27 spline shafts. I am running a true trac in the rear axle . I would recommend a whole day to work on it plus make sure you use plenty of rtv sealant I had a leak in mine didn t have enough on the first time . Other than that I am very happy with the kit it adds a peace of mind.

No, you do not need to use PLENTY of RTV because as soon as you make that recommendation, folks will use a half a tube when half a teaspoon will do.

The new housing end is such a snug fit, I have to wonder what else is going on? A very thin bead of RTV in the right spot is way more than enough to seal it up due to the design.

Where did it leak?
