Not sure where you got the print out, but the FAQ lists 1.1 quarts.

What part of it doesn't seem right? If unsure about using 1.1 quarts you could always use 2.2 pints or 1 liter.

If the capacity is supposedly 1.1 and you get 1.0 or .9 quarts, then that - to me, at least - is a good indication that the 1.1 number is right. However, I see your point...I wouldn't want to rely on what I drained, exclusively. I was treating it as a number that could corroborate what one already has been told. Thanks for pointing that out! :thumbsup:

 

I got it from FAQ. I cannot drain it, because there is a hole in the bottom of the transfer so there is none there.

 

usually when you fill fluids up on the rear end and tranny, the fluid is comming out of the hole when it is full, not the case here. That is what does not seem right, but I will put in what it calls for and call it good.

 

my FSM says 2.2 pts (1.0L) for the NV231.

How often are you supposed to change the transfer case oil? I think i heard at one point, every 24,000 miles?

 

How often do you change your brake fluid? I change my TC and brake fluid every 2 years, or whenever it gets water in it...

 

I just filled it up till it starts pouring out. Just like a standard tranny.

 

Kind of sucky if I recall, the FSM doesn't tell you to change your transmission or transfer case fluid if you have the 5 speed and a 231. Makes you wonder. I might be wrong, but I remember looking though the maintenance schedule and could not find the interval. Changed mine anyways though at about 50k.
