Guys..I know you've done it. Right now Im in the process of stripping the parts off my rusty tub. I know I could try to get 4-5 of my friends/ brothers to help lift it..but problem is its hard to get them to come all the way to my house at once and a few of them work weekends while I work during the week. Anyway..I don't have access to a backhoe/firklift either to lift it off, so I want to hear/see some ideas. I thought about using two engine cherry picker hoists to lift it off, one in front, other in back. Or hoisting it off using an overhead beam. I would have to make something like that though. What do you think?:D thanks.

I found this on another forum:

Remove the tub yourself! After you've got everything loose:

1. Slip two 2X4's between the frame an the body so they stick out equally on each side.
2. Construct 2 sawhorses so that their at least 38" high.
3. Roll the CJ into the driveway.
4 Leverage one side of the body and the 2X4s up onto one sawhorse.
5. Do the same for the other side of the body.
6. Roll out the frame forward, it should clear. You may have to lower the tire pressure depending upon the tire size.

If you've done it right, the body should be off... Easy as pie!

7. Now take a 2X4 and, using plasterboard screws, fasten it to one side of the 2X4's that are under the body, abutting it against the outside of the tub. This locks the tub in place when you lower it to the ground.
8. Place your High Lift jack under this 2X4 and lift and remove the sawhorse.
9. Gently lower this side of the body to the ground.
10. Repeat steps 1 - 9 for the other side.

Now the body is on the ground on a "Skid." You can use the 2X4 skid to move the body around in the driveway...If you want to get fancy, hook a couple of eyelets to the skid so you can attach tow ropes. Again this is simple, cheap and easy, and if you don't have a lot of friends to help it's a workable solution. At least it works for me.

and I found these pics of how another guy did it..

This is how I did mine, only I used a 2" rachet strap under the roll bar 45*. If the Jeep is to high, you could let the air out of the tires, before removing them.

I found a good balance point on a CJ-7 tub is the front center seat belt bolts. Shop crane from the side and link both sides of chain up at lift hook so it wont slip and rotate (had that happen). Best on empty tubs only. For loaded tubs, I pull the chassis out from under it.

The only thing about a hoist of any kind is that you can exert more pressure than you realize if you're tub snags something or you miss a bolt. The result could be dangerous. Go slow and pay close attention.

Did my CJ5 myself without a cherry picker or lift of any kind. Just stood it up (firewall down) and walked it wherever it needed to go. Eventually I used an old set of casters on a board to turn it into a giant roller skate and made it easier to move around the shop. I even reinstalled it myself. Not terribly heavy, just awkward.

I used a chain hoist that I bought for $29.00 at HF (Harbor Freight) and attached some chain/rope with eye hooks at the rear seat front mounts and the front seat forward mounts. A stripped down CJ-7 tub weighs just 225lbs with all the accessories taken off.

I know it's old but this is a great post and very helpful to me since it will just be me and my son removing our YJ tub.

I was looking for a video that showed how to do this and came across one on YouTube where some guy did it himself... with a pickup truck... not recommended!

What! Why make this so complicated???

After removing the interior, dash etc. me and a buddy simply picked it up and placed it on a trailer.. he was on one side and I was not the other.. its NOT that heavy...
