Different OEM seats in a TJ?

I think it's time to change out my tired, cracked, and worn out front seats in my 01'. What would you guys reccomend? Now, we all know that there is an endless supply of aftermarket seats available. What I'm looking for is something good for the long haul. I drive out to the west coast once a year (over 1500ish kms or 15 hour straight drive) and need seats that are not going to give you flat arse, a sore back, and a pinched neck. I see that a lot of people use oem seats off different cars like the Cavalier which I think is a direct bolt in and a novel idea. Really I'm looking for a good seat, be it OEM or aftermarket. Any opinions would be appriciated and pics would be a plus.

I love my corbeaus (even though I just got them in yesterday) they are lightyears ahead of my stock seats. I have the baja ss ones but if you want a more stock look then check out their moab seats. Basically an OEM seat with higher bolstering and really nice padding. They also offer heated seat kits. Not to mention there will be no fab work on your part. Its just a bolt up and go. I have pics in my build thread of mine. Or check out their website for a Jeep builder thing that lets you see what all the seat combos look like in a Jeep.

Not sure about your budget or if/how they will fit, but I sat in the new JK leather seats as the Chicago Auto Show and they are VERY comfortable. I would love to have a pair in my TJ! I am 6'2" and 225 lbs and they fit me like a glove. Soft AND supportive.

I replaced the beat up seats in my 97 Sport with newer TJ Sahara seats and I loved them. Picked up the set from Davey's Jeeps in Ohio for just over a hundred bucks.

From the WJ/ZJ tech forum (answering the question of whether WJ seats will fit a ZJ)....

i just did this swap guys,

i can confirm that the fronts do fit, but for ME, on the drivers side, one of the brackets was off by about a quarter inch, not a big deal though.

the seats just need a +12v and a ground, very easy wiring....
So by the Transitive Property of Seat Fit, the answer is yes, with a minor adjustment.

'06 Seats in a '97

Hi There,

Been following this thread with interest. I was wondering if anyone has swapped the newer high back seats from a '05 or '06 Wrangler into a '97 Wrangler. I rode in a friends '05 Wrangler over the weekend and liked the seats much better, so would be keen to put a set in my TJ.

Would these be a direct bolt in swap?

Yep, I helped a friend swap '05 seats into his '98 TJ, direct bolt. They are taller and with the seat risers he put in they are really, really tall, as in barely hit the roll bar. The height also restricts rear vision somewhat, something to get used to. They are more comfortable tho.

As to other seats, I was looking for comfort, support, high sides, using a harness. Ended up with PRP's but did a lot of looking before that. My short list included seats from Dodge Neon SRT, Jetta, Eclipse, WRX, GSX-r and several others. They key was seat bottom width and no controls on the inside of the seat and all of these, and more, fit the criteria. Lots of time with a tape measure in the junk yard

Another option is the Ford Ranger 60/40, a friend has that seat from a Ranger Extended Cab (, very comfy and they still recline...), Ford Explorer seats also fit fairly easily.

Of course anything is possible with enough fabrication...

Cows get wet all the time. ;) More important is how hot are they going to be? Answer.... If they're black and the sun is out they will blister the crap out of you... Plus you will sweat like nobody's business. Been there, done that, have the scars to prove it. Granted if you leave the top up they will be better than if you are topless, but they will still be hot regardless.

Def agree, just the thought of sitting on leather seats that have been baking in the sun...YIKES! :bacon:

ZJ Seats

I just picked up the front seats from a really nice 98 ZJ Larado that is scheduled to be crushed tomorrow under CFC. They will be going in my TJ as soon as I get it out of storage. Thanks for the great tip. Like I said earlier in this thread I have been dealing with the cracked and broken vinyl seats for the longest time. NO MORE!
