It's time came to replace my stock harmonic balancer to something better.
I don't like that ugly looking Dorman HB from RockAuto.
I found this : Hughes Engines

Now I need to get a second part to make it work.
What should I buy? There is a bunch of internal and external HBs.
Could any1 explain to me what those (internal and external) are and what's the best for my application? :wave:

Internal means it is neutrally balanced because the motor is balanced on the crank.
External means there are balance weights on the harmonic damper and flex plate. The 5.9 is external balanced, the 5.2 is internal.

So your gonna spend $40 for the pully , and another "who know's how much" on the HB . I don't get it . Why not just buy the Dorman 1 pc assembly for $50some bucks and be done . They work fine , I should know , I have one on my 5.9 for about 1 year now . I was skeptical about these also , but , wouldn't hesitate if I needed another . As for the cosmetics , your only gonna appreciate them when it's on the bench , on the jeep , only the sides show . With the engine running , it's just a blur of a rotating mass .
3 5.9 GC's I had looked at , had a bad HB , yet to see a bad on on a 5.2

I got info from here Mopar Parts Catalog

but they offered 2 HB for 5.2 & 5.9 for $75 and $113. Do you know which one is right? btw I'll call them anyway

Thank you for info but this one goes for $200 ++ plus pulley , total is $250

3 5.9 GC's I had looked at , had a bad HB

Interesting - the 5.9 I'm rebuilding didn't come with a HB, so I grabbed a junkyard one from a '97 Dodge 5.9. Is there any way to tell a good HB from a bad one if it's not on the engine?

You could inspect the rubber 'gasket' in the core , but , until it spins and starts to wobble , I know of no other way .

Damn , $215 . I'm all on the Mopar bandwagon , but , not at 4X the price , and not when I know the other one is just fine

But why buy the one with the pulley? The Mopar balancer without the pulley is a lot less expensive.
