I've read the transmission coolers you get with the tow package are either shared with the radiator or shared with the condenser. My 2000 4.7 WJ has the towing package but has neither of those types. It has a small transmission cooler sticking up at an angle on the driver's side in front of the condenser. Is this something that came from the factory or was this installed after market?

If it is after market, did WJs with the towing package come without transmission coolers?

I am no expert but I think all automatic transmissions come with coolers regardless of whether they have a tow package or not. My 2000 4.7 has no tow package and the transmission cooler is integral to the radiator. I don't know what that is. Could it be a power steering cooler?

That don't look factory. And there is a whole lot of confusion with the Aux cooler and who should have it. Especially the 4.0 and earlier (99-00) 4.7

The Aux trans cooler from the factory should be on the passenger side where the trans lines are.

The trans lines run on the passenger side of the vehicle, what you've pictured is the pre-hydraulic fan power steering cooler.

Yes, that is factory.

If you have the factory external trans cooler it will be mounted on the passenger side in front of the condenser. Otherwise your trans lines will run into the radiator end tank and utilize the internal cooler that's built in to it.

Forgot to add, I've got a buddy with an 00 Laredo 4.7 that has the factory external trans cooler and I've seen a few in the junkyard.

My 00 Limited does not have the external cooler, however both WJ's do have the factory tow package, although mine did not come with skid plates or tow hooks, whereas his did. He also has a vari-lok rear end, leather interior, and heated seats so his Jeep has some less than common options.

I'm assuming the external trans cooler was an option for the earlier V8's, but we have run his VIN to confirm it.

It went away as that space became occupied by the improved power steering cooler that was added with the switch to the hydraulic cooling fan.

I feel a bit dumb now. That's definitely the PS cooler. The transmission cooler lines go into the radiator on the passenger side. I was thinking the transmission cooler lines were on the driver's side since I saw video of a radiator removal that had them there (pretty sure it was a WJ :))and never bothered following the lines carefully. :surprise:
