Bump... does anyone know of a good source to actually replace the pitman nut???

Mine is toasted and needs replaced.
It is probably a 7/8-14 jam nut, try fastenal

Okay, dumb question, but could a new steering gear box have a different size than a 7/8-14?

I got a re-manufactured Cardone 27-6534 gear box, and new 7/8-14 nut will not go on it. I went back to the local auto store where I bought it, asked them, they pulled one from the shelf, tried a 7/8-14 and it would not work.

Ive looked online, no luck.

The threads look good, all thought I may have rolled the first thread trying to get the nut on, no more than 1/2 a turn.

The diameter of the shaft is .860, which leads me to think its a M22.
Thread count is 14 per inch.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Mike

I was able to get it fixed....by filing off the first thread to get to clean straight ones.

I also got this information from the Tech email for Cardone

Good info, thanks for posting!

The buggered threads can sometimes be chased with a thread file. I carry one on the trails for all those 40yr old bolts we mess with. LOL
