How to remove a coil spacer?

The PO installed 2" spacers on the front to I'm asumming level it out. I've had the jeep for about a year now and I keep telling myself to take them out because I have some small driveline vibes.

I've done brake jobs, oil changes, taken a BL off, dropped fuel tanks, but never messed with anything suspension wise.

So can somebody give me a step by step on how to remove front coil spacers?

And yes I'm aware that my fenders are chopped lol. Not my doing (PO thought it looked cool?) hopefully somebody will donate me some MCE flatties

I'm installing 1" spacer on Sat.
Alldata says to get front springs out, I need to....
- disconnect front drive shaft
- disconnect sway bar ends
- remove lower control arms
- disconnect track bar from frame rail
- disconnect drag link from pitman arm

Is all this necessary or padding the time on the repair clock?
Or is your 06 that different from my 98 TJ?

Again, not sure, but it appears that there is enough compression left to remove the spacer and still be ok. If the shocks came with a kit and the spacers were added later, the shocks should be ok. Unless longer shocks were added with the spacers. To the OP, if the PO added longer shocks and bumpstops with the spacers, then this needs to be addressed as well.

Like Boogie said, basically the opposite of putting them in. Pull the coils (compressor? that's what I use), remove the bumpstops, remove the spacers, reinstall bumpstops, reinstall coils. Pretty simple. However, this may cause the shocks to blow out over a big bump, and likely would not cure any driveline vibrations.

I'm not entirely certain about this -- I'm in a different town than my Jeep right now, or I'd check -- but I believe that the stock spacer/isolator is .75", and that the photo shows that the PO removed the original and replaced it with a 2 inch spacer, which means that the total additional lift is only 1.25 inches (2" new - .75" old). This is how I interpret Daystar's instructions (see this PDF) which are pretty thorough.

If I'm correct, then sawing it out with a sawzall is not an option, and what you need to do instead is remove the spring, remove the 2" spacer and replace it with a factory-style .75" (Daystar part number KJ09108) or a 1.25", or some combo.

Someone else with more knowledge, please chime in.

IDK if i have more knowledge:))) but you are correct in the fact that there are no OEm coil isolaters above the spacers....If you dont put something back in the spacers place you will have metal to metal(spring to coil bucket) contact and that is NOT good! You are guarnteed to have more vibes especailly when the front suspension compresses....Farmer had the math right....All Jeeps come with a fake from the factory and the PO corrected it pretty normally. Id just leave it the way it is.....The spacers aren't likely causing your vibes anyhow. BUT poly does give more vibrations than the factory rubber ones....Sorry for the book:)

I had a front end shake in my tj. I have 2" spacers. I took it to a local 4x4 shop for them to look at it, and they told me the trac-bar (mine is a stock one) bushing is wore out and needs to be replaced. I ordered a replacement bushing for less then $10.00 changed them out and it fixed the problem. The guy at the shop told me that the 2" BB puts a lot of pressure on that bushing and I may have to replace it every couple of years. It worked for me, may work for you.

Thanks. Haven't crawled under there to check for myself but it sounded excessive.
Changed springs on my Dodge Diesel and it was not a big deal but I thought things might be a lot colser together on the Jeep.
Alldata is usually pretty good but I have caught them overdoing from time to time.

Not possible removing springs on a 98 is a harder job?

NO a 98 is easy. go to AutoZone and rent the coil spring compressors. Unbolt the shocks(either top or bottom) and your trac-bar(one end, I like doing the axle side mount-easier) and your golden. Check and see if you have retainers too.....really easy man, esp. with the compressors.
