Help wiring up WJ seats

Ok, round 3 for the attempt at getting these WJ seats in my XJ. I think it is doable. I just have to spend some time to get it worked out. i set the passenger side base in yesterday, but before I bolt it to the floor I want to get the power working to check out exactly where to put the base, so the seat can go forward and back without being obstructed.

SO, can anyone help me out with a wiring diagram or anything on these WJ seats? Pics would be HUGE help.

Thanks

Red and black on the harness, green is ground. rest of the wires going into harness are not used. At least on mine that is the case.

i have about a foot of the harness before the connector to the seat, thats were i put power to test mine. inside that foot of harness is about 10 other wires. looking onthe back of the connector, none of the other wires pass through, only red, black and green.

Thanks for the quick reply Apostle. Ok, so you're talking about red, black, and green on the seat harness or what? I'll have to go look at it again. I was going to run my power straight from the fuse box and then just ground it to the seat mounting bolt. So, what is that....red power and green ground? Then what is black. Sorry....this is why I started a thread on this :D

I used red and black with a 12v charger. the green was there, figured it was a chasis ground of some sort (didnt really mess with it).

if you look under the seat, all you should see is red and black wires going from harness, to switches to motors.

do you have both sides of the power connector?

I DO have heated. Thanks for the link.

Awesome....ok, so I just run all 6 wires to the driver's side like wires. Then from there I run black to ground, red to fused 12v, and the yellow to the pci bus. That's the only one I'm not positive on....the yellow one. What is it's purpose?

Hi,

The pci wire might be for the memory position. Just a guess.

Did you manage to get the power to work ? Do all the motors work only with the 2 + and - wires connected ?
I was looking for wj seats to fit in my xj a while ago but I stopped looking after seeing the wj connector is a 10 pin while my xj's is a 2 pin, and didn't want to waste time trying to figure out what wire powers what...
But now reading in wjjeeps that only the 2 wires are needed to power all the motors of the seat makes me wanna try digging again :D But I want to be sure before spending bucks

ok, photobucket is being retarded and not working for me, but I guess we don't need pics of my connector since we have it pretty much figured out. Thanks for your help man. After I get these kiddos some lunch I'm going to go out and see if I can't get it moving. If I'm SUCCESSFUL I'll see if I can't get the passenger seat mounted in there today. Then I'll at least get the fronts finished up next weekend and all wired up properly. Today I'm just hooking it up all redneck like :D

Wouldnt expect anything less from ya :)

I don't think you will be able to get the heat working on them...probably the power adjust but not the heat.

Some of those wires (dont remember which ones) feed the ECU the temp of the seats and it shuts them off when reaching a certain temp so they don't melt down. This is part of the MAJOR problems with the WJ seat heaters, the wires will break/burn and the ECU can't monitor the temp...so it will shut it off. To make it even more if a PITA there are 2 different circuits for the HI/LOW heat switch.

Uhhhhg......I've fixed my seats 2 times and the passenger side needs it again...

yeah, like I said above.....it just says to hook all 6 wires from the passenger's side up to the like wires on the driver's side and the only two wires that NEED to be hooke up to your HEEP are the power and ground. Then the yelllow wire CAN be hooked up to your PCI.

I just hooked up the red/blue and black wires from the passenger's side straight up to the battery and had full function of all three motors. I put the seat on there to make sure it would have full range of motion. It's going to be tight, but it's going to work

I say go for it and get the WJ seats.

Bringing your thread back from the dead. I installed WJ seats into my XJ recently, and was able to wire the passenger side seat up no problem. However the drivers side won't seem to work. I am using red and black wires as 12v power and ground but no luck. I was thinking possibly a bad recline seat switch or worst case scenario the motor. Also do you happen to know the wires used for the lumbar support?

Revival of a dead thread, but has anyone successfully rewired the factory WJ seat heaters to be used in the XJ?

I know the WJ heaters have their flaws, and I know it is possible to add after market heaters. I was speaking to my father-in-law who is an Electrical Engineer, he felt pretty confident it would be possible to make a simple adapter to make everything play together nicely. He fabricates stuff like this frequently, and sells them to anyone interested typically, so if anyone has wiring diagrams for these seats, maybe we can make this mod a little more fruitful.

I am hoping a close to plug-n-play adapter can be made using the WJ harness, heater switch(s), "a magic box" and some leads for a power source.

Any info would be great.

That link does have some good info, especially for wire coloring. It however does not have everything we need to know. There are 4 wires for the seat heaters, has anyone figured out which each one does?

I have heard conflicting statements about how the temp is regulated. Some threads say there is thermistors, which if that was true they would pretty much self regulate. Some threads say there is a thermometer built i to the pad which then the control board uses to regulate. The second scenario makes more sense as to why there would be 4 wires. Instead of 2 or 3.

After doing a fair amount of making up diagrams and looking for hardware it seem to be like most people are saying, just get aftermarket seat heaters. It turns out that the seats I picked up did not have heaters anyways, which made my decision for me. It would be possible to use the seat heaters, but you would need: Relay, DC converter, heat sink, voltage regulator or programmable current limiter, and a switch. There is a more shade tree way of putting some in line voltage limiters which would heat up themselves, but is a little suspect. I am not sure if it would be possible to contact one of the seat companies, like Rostra, and ask for a new complete wiring loom. The hardware for the seats was going to be about $45-65 per seat, I was able to get aftermarket seat heaters for both front seats for $50 total shipped. Still pretty cheap considering its a much more comfortable seat, leather, has power recline and lumbar, adjustable head rest, and now heaters. Plus, that map pocket in the back of the seat is actually pretty handy since the XJs do not have much for cubby storage.

Sorry if this wasnt the solution we were hoping for, but at least its not overly expensive either.
