They are both good quality, So in all honesty buy what you feel is right to you.

 

I love my IPFs. They have a great low beam cut-off and are extremely bright. When aimed properly I get the right amount of light in all the right places. I don't even really need my off-road lights anymore like I did before.

 

So... where does one purchase these H4 upgrade kits? I searched online, but the only people who carry them seem a bit sketchy.

 

These are the links to the two headlights: The only difference I can see is that the Hella's already come with the bulls and are a little cheaper. The IPFs have the bulbs sold separately and are then a little more expensive.

+1 for the IPFs. I have them in my YJ and by far the best upgrade I ever did. Just put a good bulb in them. To most out of them, upgrade the wiring too.

 

I got my Hella E-codes (the ones that are technically illegal but have a FAR better cutoff to the pattern) from Rallylights.com. The housings are a good deal less expensive than the IPFs, the beam pattern is better in my opinion (The IPFs have a wierd little triangle of light in one upper corner that the Hellas don't.) and the bulbs are available in a varietey of wattages and colors.

I got the white color 100/80 watt bulbs and never get flashed for glare on low beam. I have my upper cutoff aimed so it just hits the edge of the rear deck lid on most smaller cars when they are 30 or 40 feet out.

No wiring upgrade done, none needed in my TJ.

 

I just got the Hella e-Codes from rallylights.com.

The beam pattern is darn good IMO.

The cutoff is very similar for both, but the output is better from the Hella E-codes. I highly recommend them. Please upgrade your wiring harness and bulb wattage as well and you will be in for a treat - driving a Jeep where you can SEE at night!

 

I have the Hella E Codes as well. Still running the lower wattage bulbs....wiring upgrade with higher wattage bulbs is my next mod....Great lights tho!

 

DOT cutoff pattern sucks... European Spec is far better. What the hell were the North American regulating bodies thinking?

In Europe the street signs are lighted...where as here in NA we rely on our headlights to light the signs. I have noticed it is hard to see signs and pedestrians with the new lights..

 

So for you guys running Hella E-codes, as long as they are adjusted properly they are good to run? I am going to have to look into those. My stepson runs HID's on his and I am not all that impressed. Granted he may need to adjust them too.

why has no one mentioned the autopal? are the name brand conversions really worth the extra cash? not couting the autopal bulbs of course..
I've come across some pics of the autopals on here that are freaking amazing compared to stock!!

 

Autopals have an excellent beam pattern just like the more expensive housings. The only issue is that the glass is a bit on the thin side and people have had issues with them cracking or shattering from small rocks getting kicked up.

 

From what I understand the general consensous is that the crystal lenses are no bueno.. Just the regular glass is the way to go..:thumbsup:

 

I would agree with that. Glass quality while very clear has many minor flaws in it (particles and or bubbles). I wish I had gone with the standard E Code Autopal housings.

Live and learn...and they were free so yeah, no loss.

 

I decided to go with the Hella H4 Conversion and installed them. They are much brighter with high and low beams compared to my stock headlights ever were. I am satisfied with them. :2thumbsup:

 

I had purchsed the Hella H4's and found that the 55/60 hella bulbs were not that bright. So I upgraded to the GE Nighthawks which were considerably brighter but on a trip up into the interior I still found it hard to see. (yes my lights are adjusted correctly....I am just getting old I guess!!)
So yesterday I found a brand new set of 4300k HID's for sale for $65....plug and play....installed them last night and holy crap what a difference!!!!

I got it off of CL...same guy I bought my roof rack from! LOL. Turns out this guy got them for Xmas and didn't want them...thought they were too bright????

It looks like an E-Bay kit. The box only sais Xenon HID light. It is a hi/lo 4300k kit....but honestly the high beam is absolute crap! it is just a standard halogen...but the low beams are awsome. I have been running them for a bit now and am VERY pleased. I spent alot of time adjusting them to make sure I wasn't blinding anyone, and having the 4300k (OEM White) makes a difference as well. For $65 I didn't go wrong.

 

Can you run e codes and the fat boys? Seems no one runs that combo. its either ipf housing and fat boy bulbs or hella ecodes and hella bulbs. thanks.

So if you get the Hellas it's plug in and adjust for ~100 and the ipfs are ~80 plus ~70 for the bulbs? Not complaining just wondering. My 99 is in major need of new lights and I've never really understood this thing... Wish there was a kit for 100-150 that has everything you need for super whites lol

 

Yes for the Hellas they are plug and play for about $100 and they include 2 bulbs and 2 lenses. The IPF are way more expensive, because it is about $80 for just one lens and about $50 (depending on what bulb you get) for each bulb so you have to multiply that price twice. Also the IPFs recommend that you upgrade the headlight wiring harness too, and so do the Hellas to make them either brighter, but I am satisfied with the light output with my factory wiring harness with the Hellas! Anything is an upgrade to the factory headlights! :laugh:

He sells the Cibie lights which are far better than either the Hella or IPF versions and his customer service is A+. Super knowledgeable.

Also, if you haven't done the harness upgrade, you are doing yourself an injustice. The difference is huge, even more with the upgraded lights. And you don't take the chance of burning up your factory harness.
