Has anyone used these things? The link says it's for a tj but they are for a yj. The design look good, just wondering how strong they would be. Any info on them would be great. Let me know what you think.

I haven't bought them yet. Wanted to see what everyone else thought first. But I might just bit the bullet and buy them this week. If nothing else to let everyone else, who may be interested in them, what they are like. I have built regular cages before, but thought I would try something different this time. Anyone else have any comments?

those are really cool, but $199 sounds awfull high to me for 35-50 bucks in steel, but I guess if you dont have access to the tools to make some, then . . . . .

Do you think these are as strong as a straight piece of tube to the floor? It doesn't look like it to me, but then again I'm no engineer. I think the only real advantage is the additional leg/foot room. I know with my cage the tube does interfere with my leg. But for the money a straight piece of tube would be alot cheaper.

It's not that I can't build them, if you check my build thread, I have built about everything on my jeep. The price does not bother me either. It's the fact that there seems to be other people interested in them. And If I have to be a test pilot, so to speak , on them I will. Some people don't have the fundage to just buy a set to see what they are like. I just want to see what quality they are. If I don't like them I can change them out, it's not a big deal. I would not think they would be as strong as a piece of tube, but you never know. Also, would not put them in a dedicated trail rig, but for people who DD there rigs they might be just the right thing for them.:shhh:

Looks good to me... the bolts next to the speakers tie into the tub, and the stresses of a rollover would be in shear for those bolts and the pressure would be transmitted all the way through the structure and into the floor where it attaches. That is why (I assume) they recommend the frame tie-in kit to go with the stanchions.

3/16" steel is gonna be pretty stout for a cage support... it would be weaker than a straight tube depending on the tube's thickness and diameter. But the steel plate bent in the shape I see with the gussets would be much stronger than a simple piece of plate. The aesthetics of the design appeal to me very much. As a rollbar upgrade for my DD, this would be substantially stronger than the stock setup that basically comes down to the windshield hinges for all rollover strength distribution. IMHO it is going to be great for added protection over a stock setup. If you plan on rolling your rig alot, then get a solid tube and tie it into the frame and lose the clearance/comfort and ease of manufacture.

Ok, I just ordered a set. FYI pirate site member 5% off. Not sure of a jeepforum discount. If anyone wants any certain pics let me know. I will post them up on here when I get them.

Here's another option....Poison Spyder Customs: It's a single piece from the top of the dash to the floor with gusseting to strengthen the leg. It doesn't interfere with the window cranks and will work with half and full doors and it's only $159.

I looked those up also. But I found a thread on pirate 4x4 on them. They showed poison spyder rig that rolled and the A pillars failed. Then they went on to say that the Genright ones were much stronger and would not fail. For the $40 more it's really not worth it.

thanks man!

What size is the tube tied into your stanchion? It looks like 1.5" true?

Why even have these things? you can drop the tube straight to the floor and do the tie in from there. I see no use for these stanchions on a YJ.
On a TJ... ok, you have a purpose, but even then, why not just drill the dash?

Personally for the price they are charging for those I would run tube to the floor and just open my door to roll the windows down.
I ran the Toys for Troy bolt in cage, rolled it one time over. The place where it bolts into the dash held up. This was just bolted in but I did put a plate behind it too.
So yea I would say it would hold up.
