Fold & Tumble Seats

I searched and searched, only to get different results. My passenger's side folds & tumbles, but my driver's seat does not. All I know is that there's an aftermarket amplifier mounted under the driver's seat. It slides back and forth no problem, but it doesn't tumble forward.

Also, when I went to fold & flip my back seat forward, the front clips popped out of the floor. Is it supposed to do that, or is there another lever that i'm SUPPOSED to depress or pull to disengage the front clips? All the other TJs I see with flipped up back seats have the front clips installed and intact when up.

drivers seat dosnt tumble only the passenger seat does as far as the back seat I dont have one so I cant help you there.
both mine tumble.

as for the back seat that just means your front clips havent locked, the get them to unclip there is a lever under the front of the back seat at should be used to unclip them.

I have an 04 and can tell you that the drivers seat does not tumble. The back seat should not come un hooked in a tumble. I would pull the back seat and lube it really good with some white lithium grease should work fine after that.

I have a hunch. I read up on SirG.Cal's site about the amp rack he made and how he had to put in the seat risers from an early TJ so the seat does not tumble, thus freeing up some space under the seat for the amp. Are the tumbler mechanisms the same for both the driver's and passenger's side? If so, I'll just buy the mechanism from a passenger's side seat and fit it to my driver's seat. Removing the amp too, of course.

In my old 02 TJ (standard edition with 4.0) the passenger seat would tumble but not the drivers. The passenger seat cable broke so i had to reach under and hit the lever. When i put a new wire in, it would tumble fine. The rear seat would pop out of the front bracket with no levers or anything, just rock it to the side.

My 06 rubicon has dual tumble seats, and the back seat has a spring so when you pull the lever and fold the back down, it flips all the way up and rolls up by the rear of the front seats. You need to pull the lever to release the front clips.

My cousins 03 Sahara had dual tumble seats.

Just to add to the confusion - the front seats are "tip & slide" and the rear seat is "fold & tumble".

My 99 Sahara has both fronts tip & slide.

Yeah but Chrysler has those terms trademarked so if you misuse them on a public forum they have the right to come in the middle of the night and take your rig.

What we are not throwing into the mix besides the year is the model. Mine is a 03 X which is a lower end. My drivers seat does not fold maybe because of the X trim. I know some of the posts for 03+ where both seats folded indicated Rubicons. My neighbor has a 03 Rubicon. I'll have to check his.
