Curious what is it grounding? My jeep has never had it and was only recently I noticed it missing 5 plus years now.

After I replaced my degraded straps I did some research on why an exhaust pipe is grounded. The two most common answers were: 1- As air moves over the heated pipe quickly it creates static electricity and the ground strap disperses it. 2- A hot exhaust pipe can create RFI (radio frequency interference) and once again the strap disperses it.
Does not having them cause a real issue? Who really knows. All I know is, if the engineers determined it was required, then that's good enough for me. It's not expensive or hard to do.

I would actually think that one reason could be to help disperse grounding to the chassis. It's otherwise only really connected to the engine via the manifolds, so while there are a few grounds between the engine and chassis directly, the exhaust pipe could easily serve as another conduit in which to offer a grounding path between engine and chassis. I've never heard of air traveling over metal to create static electricity, but I suppose that it's possible. Certainly an interesting answer! :nerd:

Just past the last cat and and ahead of the muffler, I think? lol been a while since I looked. Kinda midway on the transmission area. When the original owner put the magnaflow catback exhaust on it I assume that's when it disappeared. Wasn't untill last november I noticed the remnants of it so I checked out the ground thread and noticed it.

Not sure if this is a WJ as picture quality is poor, but it looks like one -
- the perils of static.

In the dim and distant past I used to refuel aircraft as a part time job and before filling we always used an earth strap to remove static, so I guess metal moving through air does set up static charges.

Double E is correct. Mopar says it's a radio noise suppression strap. The picture of the strap matches exactly what mine looks like. Looks like a lot of us here have learned something new. :grin2:

Air flow, over or through metal or plastic will create, Static Electricity, in some cases, more so in cooler temperatures. wood factories, using pipe to move dust particles and small scrap, away from the machines, to compost use long lengths, of ground wire on pipes to bleed S.E. Aircraft, in flight develop S. E. and need to be grounded, before refuel or loading munitions as a precaution. Getting in and out of your vehicle in cold weather while refueling, or filling a gas can, while still in the truck bed. can cause S. E. and be a major fire hazard. on and on, you either have a good ground, or you can become the ground
