I can't seem to find a stock replacement air cleaner housing for my 84 CJ7. I see plenty of K&N and stuff but i just want a standard air cleaner housing. When i bought this this jeep it had a dinky little 4" air cleaner and i want to go back stock so i can get the breather tube hooked back up. Any sources out there I must be looking in the wrong places. Thanks Mike

You 'might' have manual brakes, but you better check because the two air filters don't mix or match.

Go look at the brake master cylinder to see if it is bolted directly to the firewall or if there is a big round vacuum booster between it and the firewall.

Manual brakes then.

Just a thought, if you ever maybe wanted more stopping power, it is real easy to switch to power brakes so you might want to just get the air filter for power brakes now. That one will work for both systems, the manual brake air filter only works on them.

One sits on the carb, the manual one. The other sits on the valve cover with a snout over the carb so there is room for the brake master to move forward to fit the booster behind it.

Up here in Canada, The 87-92 YJ one will have a couple holes in the bottom that can be plugged for the pulse air tubes and an extra flap on the intake to prevent vapor loss when the engine is off, but it will fit on and work fine.

I think some US ones have these extra holes too, depending on what emissions market they were sold for.

A buddy figured out Remy Martin corks fit perfectly. Not all the CJ ones have them though right?

anyone out there consider/ or have made an air cleaner assembly? my cj5 has those cool and pointless 4" filter stuffed on top of the carb and my cj7 build came with nothing, with a little sheet steel couldn't something be fashioned that emission controls and line could be run too?

Sure why not. I've done it before myself. Just make sure your seal on the air cleaner filter is good and tight. The stock ones usually have braces stamped in so you only need one bolt to get a good tight seal.

While we're at it, I need an air cleaner for a V8 (360). Everything I see on eBay that says V8 seems to be the non-power I6 cleaner. I know the V8 is supposed to have 2 vacuum motors on it.

I have a bid on an actual V8 cleaner on eBay currently, but failing that one, I may be in some trouble.

Thanks - David
