And have to do the drip trays too.
I put some 5.9 louvers with the drip trays on my '00 XJ.
Saw a couple other guys had done it and just loved the look.

 

I may be 4 years late, but i could make a model... i got a 5.9 now and therefore have them available... i could even adapt them a bit to be more aggresive, bigger, more open... whatever your heart desires... in case someone is interessted, just write it here, i will make a general "oem" modell and then make changes as wanted.... but please no hurry, im doing it for free so please no "when are you done" everyday

 

Id say run with what inspires you first and lets see what feedback you get.

as long as you use the type of plastic that will withstand engine heat then 3dprint would be cool.

 

Yes, PLA and PETG arent usable, PLA melts even under the sun during summer, PETG isnt UV resistant. My go to would be ASA with Aramid fibers or Carbon fibre reinforced Nylon…

Atm im making the side labelling:
"GRAND CHEROKEE (5.9 Limited)...
Then I will go for a more cooling oriented lower Vent piece, the original ones seem useless since they only bring hot air from the side of the hood to them, instead of taking actual engine air directly...

You probably can't upload them directly to the forum, drop them in a dropbox/drive/onedrive/w/e and get a link to share.

 

@98JZLaredo4.0 , while we are at it we should 3dprint a few of the rarer pieces for ZJ's... like the 5spd shift boot plastic piece that snaps into the console, power window blank covers for 93-95, power door lock blank covers for 93-95... hell lets print a whole mini console from 93 ZJ's.

 

Unfortunately i cant make a modell from something i cannot measure off from. And since i dont own a 5speed ZJ, the shifter boot is a rather low priority... with good picutres from all sides and some additional information, i am sure i can make one... but i cannot if i only have the AUomatic shifters laying around

If you got parts that I should make: Tell me and I will make a list. Please keep in mind I am working full time and also need time to work on my car as well as having some hobbies, so it may take a few weeks until YOUR desired part is/has been made.

HOOD VENT Underside - Next up
HOOD VENT Upside - Will be made together with the Underside
RADIO Adapter piece, either blank, with a Phone/sotrage tray, or for some aftermarket Radios(1DIN) - Coming within the next 5 Weeks

This is great - thanks for doing this. Are you planning to partition the models so they can be printed on a smaller bed? I personally have a 300x300mm print bed (many folks have even smaller print beds) but I suspect the hood vents would exceed these dimensions. Thus, I guess getting them printed commercially would be required (or get a new printer...)

 

yeah, the leather is covering mine. Like I said it is in good condition so I can only take pics of the bottom where it snaps into the console. Cant see much really.

It attaches the same way an automatic one does, except it is slightly smaller to compensate for the leather that is wrapped around it. The bottom has 4 "tangs" (just like the auto one) that hold it to the console. I can see little holes all round where the staples hold the leather to the inside lip. Ill get measurements of opening and height.

I have always though that I probably could cut down an auto one to "make" a 5 speed boot cover, the only difference would be that it would be flat which the 5 speed one is raised around the whole outside of it.

You know it almost has the same shape of like how an XJ one is but is the shape of the ZJ console. Nevermind. no it doesnt.

 

Can you print them vertically instead of horizontally?

 

Ah, good question. In my case yes, I can since I have 400 mm of print height. I think it would likely need some supports added - a hood vent printed on edge would be pretty unstable I think...

Alright! First thing is uploaded... currently as .step only, I will now print and test out how it looks then upload the final version as .step , .stl. and some pictures with it... next up I will go for the AX15 bezel frame and probably for the Vent-underside

 

do you have to have an account on Thingiverse to see the STL file you uploaded? I see nothing when I click that link.

 

It does not have a Preview, because i only uploaded .step… Preview only works with .stl… i will update it

 

Any updates on this ? 3d printed vents would be a great resource. I also have a 5 speed boot ring I would be willing to disassemble for dimensions. Honestly I could probably do that one myself, but the vents are beyond my skill level.

 

actually i have a base line, but they are huge and i can't print them.
I'm looking for a way to print 3d parts that are longer that 400mm .
I'm not ready to share the design yet though lol

plan is to print a few pairs and give them for free (just pay the shipping cost) to anyone who wants to try them in order to have a few feedback and modify the design accordingly....if this makes any sense lol

 

i'm "lucky" that my boss is letting me store all my jeep stuff (3 garages of stuff) where i work.
i hope to finish the house restoration by the end of the year.

 

Hey guys, update! I am finally working on the vents!

Whoever originally made these had no clue about repeating measurements... like if I kept it 100% every damn radius and side length would be different... so this right here is a more geometrical uniform design.... not done yet obviously... but its coming along nicely... I also got the underside here with me, I plan un redesigning this to fit a small fan to it and have active cooling instead of using thermal properties of air only....another kinda crazy idea was a smoke machine and red LED, imagine a faint red glowing smoke come out of these.... bad ***!

But for now I stay OEM on the uppers and simple active cooling underneath....

 

The originals were probably hand carved, that was still common for a part like that even as recently as the 90's. So yeah, more artistic than technical.

 

Getting somewhere....I noticed I overshot the louver height by a bit, but this mainly means more cooling x-D

What y'all think? next up I need to figure out the mounting positions... then the inner drip tray...
