Does anyone have any info/experience on installing a ford v6 4.0L in a 1979 CJ5. I have one available to me, but do not know if it is adaptable to everything? Fiqured I would try to go to something fuel injected?

I thought about it but the lack of bell housings to match the engine stopped me.
I have the Ford engine in my Ranger pick up and it is vastly superior to the Jeep 4.0 I-6 in terms of stock performance, IMO.

The injected Jeep 4.0 I-6 engine is a good choice and readily available.
A fuel injected 302 is a better choice although a bit more obsolete.

Enjoy!

I love ford, however you can't beat the lowend torque of the straight 6 engine. You could gain a quite a bit of hp if it is a 4.0 sohc, but the plain 4.0 is around 160 hp, it has good torque, just not as low as the I-6.

No one said that old/obsolete can't still be good... (that sure is purdy Hack...)
I have a 302 with 40,000 miles on it sitting in the shed just waiting to go into the Jeep.

Much as I like the injected I-6 (especially an injected 258) they do not compare with the torque, horsepower and performance available from a decent injected V-8. If you try both; you too will be convinced.

Enjoy!
