mine is stuck in the unlock position lol.

 

my 93 was stuck in the unlock position. i juss pulled off the panel and saw that there was a metal piece blocking the slider(white piece). i juss bent it back and now the lock slides right to lef again

To open mine sometimes I have to push on the panel near the license plate while turning the key. Sometimes I push above the plate, and sometimes to the left.

 

Lock

You can climb in the back and with a screwdriver pop the lock at the mechanism. There is a slide clip on a rod that has probably slipped out of position. Takes some wrangling but I did not have to pull the door panel untill I got the door open. Hope this helps.

 

On 1997-2001 you can unbolt #24 under the bumper and the tailgate will open. Check that #17 and #18 are connected. Clean and lubricate the locking and handle mechanisms with a light grease. Don't use WD40 or other sprays, they just dry out in a few weeks.
