My first post! 04 JGCL, flew to mom's in CT mid June, bought Her 04 drove it home to Montana, today I figured out that the numb heads @ Valvoline pulled the cruse control vac and the vent direction vac lines in their efforts to check the air filter. my day got better with a wash and vacuumed interior.

Lots of progress today got the plenum and intake gaskets replaced along with a bunch of rubber lines that were rotted. Replaced the water pump, thermostat and the neck for it. Gonna drain the oil and finish up the odds and ends tomorrow. Hopefully it will be running much better after all this. The previous owner had a weird love for RTV instead of gaskets so there was a ton to clean off.

First time poster! Just replaced the bottom drivers side door hinge that was sagging on my 98 Grand Cherokee. Used a tutorial that I found on this site that was a great guide. I also had to repair my door latch, which was sheared off the door frame as a result of the sagging door. Stuck some fender washers on the bolts to pull it back flush against the frame. Workings good now! We'll see how long it holds up.

Cleaned mine out, took all the tools out, vacuumed, wiped down everything, and now sitting with carpet shampoo, garden hose and BIG ole shop vac to get the carpet to look and smell good again. I had a fresh 64 OZ of sweet tea dump out on the floor board when some knucklehead thought it would be a good idea to slam on their brakes at a green light. It was the Jeep or jug of tea. I saved the Jeep.

Added tiny rubber mats to my cupholder/bottleholder/armrest cubbyholes....cheap way to dress up the interior a bit and help deaden the sound of water bottles on the hard plastic. Black rubber/vinyl with Jeep logo in red. Will try to take photos and post when the light cooperates.

Started process for purchasing Max Care $100 deductible 6 year/125K mile Mopar Extended Warranty Plan. I typically don't keep vehicles that long, but who knows? At the very least the plan is transferrable and would add to resale/trade in value. As others have stated, I think this is a good move based on all the electronics in the GC's. The days where you were just concerned about engine/drive train issues are long gone.

Replaced the mirror glass on the driver's side of my 98 Grand Cherokee Limited -- the auto-dimming mirror that fails after a few years.

Also wrote up the process, with pictures:

Now if we had a few dry days, or I had a garage to work in, I could do the headlights and the new horns Santa brought.

Called the dealership about my leather dash rippling up and they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. STILL waiting for them to call me back.

Took inventory....

Was overheating on heavy traffic. Diagnoses pointed the hydraulic fan assembly. Bought the set from junkyard.
After swap filled with Motul Multi HF instead of Mopar MS5931 (Mopar is not available in my country).
Looks fine.

Learned a bit about maintenance schedules. Not too sure on the 6k mile interval with the diesel. I usually run 10k on everything with full synthetic and a top of the line filter.

Also learned that the diffs need serviced regularly as well as the transfer case. Should have guessed with it being full time 4x but it never really occurred to me I suppose until I saw it.

Hooked the seadoo trailer up to it. Since I can't seem to get my blown ignition fuse sorted out on my truck I'm.gonna have to yank them down to the marina with the GC. I tested the plug and found I had no marker lights. Had turns and brake lights though. So I did some investigating. Found an aftermarket fuse holder with a blown fuse inside. Swapped that out and everything functions properly. Also replaced a blown fog lamp fuse.

Still waiting on the time for these struts. Might just have to go the sketchy route and use the cheap compressors from AutoZone and pray I don't die.

Got the suspension in order today! Started with the rear shocks. Not bad at all. Old ones came right out and new ones went right in aside from a little fight trying to compress them as they're 5100s going in a stock Jeep. They don't bottom out and have way more down travel than will ever be used.

The front struts weren't horrible either. Finding out how to remove the stocks was my biggest issue. Took a few hours of fiddling around trying different things. The lower control arm bushing bolt was seized in the bushing. So I had to abandon removing that. I tried dropping the suspension far enough to slide out the strut. Finally I just came to terms with the fact I was going to have to unhook the knuckle. So I took the top ball joint loose, unhooked the sway bar and the while thing dropped far enough to slide the lower bracket off the strut. Went back together in 10 mins. The other side took maybe an hour since I had a process down.

Set the struts at 1.5 inches and it sits level now. Needs an alignment which will get done this week. Wife will drive my car and I'll take the truck until the Jeep can be taken in.

I rented a spring compressor from AutoZone and it was actually a pretty well designed rig. Not sketchy at all. Probably the safest thing I have ever seen for the job.
