Cross posted from another forum I frequent, this is my attempt to document the various coils used in the XJ/MJ/ZJ jeeps. This should make is far easier to identify the correct junkyard parts, or to mix and match the coils on your rig to account for extra weight, etc.

This info has been pieced together from a dozen different sources.... Please post below if you have any fill-in-the-blanks for me, and I will update accordingly.

"Chrysler makes a variety of springs for the GC. There are two main types, base and HD, and in each type category there are 5-10 different springs with different GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) capabilities. The springs are denoted by a two digit code as well as a part number."

vehicle build code SDA = normal duty
vehicle build code SDB = heavy duty

V and U spring codes are for right side (passenger), G and F are for left side (driver)

I have found that any spring with the first letter code G ( in column C ) is an Up-Country (UC) spring and is 1" taller than a stock
spring with a first letter code F. This applies to both XJ and ZJ.

As you can see from the XJ list, even G codes had different rates. The rates varried based on vehicle build and options. For instance, a 2.5 2wd will have different rates than a 2.5 4wd will have different rates than a 2.5 4wd with the skid plate package etc.

Not all G codes are upcountry. Rather, G-code is the "heavy duty" versus "standard duty"; and does not necessarily denote UpCountry.

Well that is bad news for me considering i got some FN coils the other day from the junk yard... i saw it on rock lizard lifts and he didnt specify the part number just that he got 2.25 inches of lift... would u guys say he was lying?

There are so many different ZJ coils that no-one has ever charted the results of installing each one in a stock Cherokee.

Coil springs spacers are about $35 a pair and provide an exact amount of lift. This would be a better choice than wandering around a junkyard, pulling some unidentified ZJ coils and installing them in your Cherokee, only to find you get little to no lift.

Ya i understand. But wouldn't full coils be better than spacers? I know i know im pretty stupid i suppose. I am also making a bastard pack i just want to do it myself. The screwy part is going to be what shocks to buy lol. Anyways thanks bro i got the damn coils so ill toss them in. If i get no lift ill get the spacers =/

Aah that is the best thing i have ever heard. 3inch coils only 100$ damn. i think i just fell in love. Now lets see if i can still put my extra xj leaf pack to use i bought maybe use the main and second that may net me 3 inches to the rear. But ill just toss the main with eyes cut off and these damn zj coils in for now. dont want a 3 incher lift with these crappy 235/75 tires on here so ill order the rustys and wait for my tires to install the extra second leaf and the 3inch coils...

Just got offered a promotion at work pays an extra 2.25$ an hour so what the hell. ill go with a 3 inch lift. i have been so well decided on a 2 inch lift but why not 3?? Then i can grab some 31 inch all terrains maybe a case drop with longer break lines and of course some shocks and be rollin till the end of the jeeps days
