Anyone remove the chrome jeep emblem on the grille?
How difficult is it to remove and can you hurt the plastic grille?

Also, anyone paint the chrome emblems black and how did they hold up?

I haven't removed the emblem off mine (never really thought to i guess), but here's a trick that i've used to remove ones on other cars, as well as motorcycle reflectors. Dental Floss. Sounds weird, but just get a long strand or two and use a firm "sawing" action. You'll want to have some kind of cleaner to take care of whatever adhesive was holding it on (some kind of glue maybe?) Post up- and let us know how it worked. :2thumbsup:

I removed mine today and it looks a lot better. The reason is, is that the emblem is too big for the grille area and clearly looks like a stuck on afterthought.

I tried the fishing line/dental floss trick but the line kept braking. Instead I used a plastic putty knife with a bevel point (flat side towards the paint) and carefully worked it and then used Goo Gone, a paper towel and a fingernail to get rid of the remaining foam adhesive. Total time was about 10 minutes. One thing I did when using the Goo Gone is to put one hand inside the grille so that when I presssed with the paper towel, I could support the area of the grille I was working on from behind.

Only thing that sucks for me, is that there are several lines in the paint where the emblems once were. I guess the paint was still wet when they stuck mine on or something.

Do it, you wont be sorry but if for some odd reason you want to put it back on, the emblems come off intact so I guess you could still glue them back on.

Anyone know where you can get Raised Black 'Jeep' emblems? Not the stickers... the raised ones...

I pulled mine off and removed the glue with Sticker remover I got from Advance Auto. Be careful when putting an edge under the letters and don't let the letter dig into the opposite side. The grille is just plastic.

Hair dryer and plastic bondo putty knife did the trick easily...

Now anyone know of anyone selling black ones?

I removed mine with floss, but it broke several times. Residue I got off of there with adhesive remover solvent. Afterwards, you could see... at an angle, where the letters where... that is until I washed and then waxed it really good.... with old-fashioned paste wax.

Sorry no pics to post right now, but can later if wanted... my JK is black and agree, they look much better with no "JEEP" stuck on there...

I replaced mine with something different.

Used a thin zip tie to remove the factory letters and then replaced it with this for a different look

Took mine off today! My heatgun has a scraper attachment and it was easy as pie. Took me 5 minutes total to remove, goof off to get adhesive off, and a little Maguires Gold Class wax to finish it off....I like it.:cheers2:

A security guard put on a ticket they got that I had a Honda. So I took it to the security guard's office, and said I don't own a Honda they revoked the ticket :2thumbsup::2thumbsup:

Maybe I'll just put a few 'HUMMER' emblems on my Jeep... that will confuse people and get me out of tickets as well... hmmmm.

I did the same as lowendrider, used fishing line to "saw" it off, cleaned the tape off the back, scuffed it up, then sprayed it with satin black. I used 3m 2 sided tape to put it back on.

Plasti dip

I would plasti-dip the emblem before even thinking of removing/ replacing it.

I'm not a plasti-dip freak like so many are becoming. I did my grill and though it looked like crap because it was more shiny in parts. I ripped it all off except for the Logo and it has stayed on really good. It comes out as very fine textured matte finish.

You can find Plasti-dip at almost any hardware store's spray paint isle. It comes in 2 kinds you want the one that has a spray cap

I'm starting to really like the look of the emblem removed.
