on a side note.... if you havnt done it already. you can pull the window up by hand and throw some zip ties around the track below the window to keep it up while you wait on a new regulator.

Just dont throw and trash bag and duct tape on it haha... have some respect for the Jeep

you could also pull the old regulator out while you are waiting to save some install time, just make sure that you have a second set of hands and dont let the window fall down into the door too hard because you could break it.

you have a broken regulator. its a relatively easy fix, six bolts to remove the regulator and motor, and then two clips attaching window to regulator, and you can get a new one for ~$60 on Rock auto.

you can try to reuse your old motor assuming the cable isnt wrapped around it,

or you can just get a new regulator and motor, which is what I would do. not much more money and you know it will work

just remember this because it will happen again. I have replaced each of my window regulator, one more than once... but I didnt buy the doorman one the first time.

I looked at pretty much every wire I could see and they all seem fine, now it won't roll up or down but slides freely. I did find this on the inside, its on the cable that pulls the window down.

 

Mine did the same thing, it would go down but not up and its happened to a lot of us wj owners and the fix always seems to be the same which is a broken wire located in the boot between the door jam. I would look at the door with the issues wires first but my wire broke in the front drivers side door boot. You can hook some wire leads to a jump pack then hook to the plug behind the door panel which should roll it up if its a wire issue, which is what I did till I could hunt for the break.

 

he said in first post the motor runs both ways, which means the switch works fine. and the window can be pulled up by hand... which means the cable that physically lifts the window is broken, indicating a broken regulator.
