locking hub

Got a question for you all. I have a Scout D44 I am building with stronger goodies. The standard warn hubs will not stand up to a locker and large tires I will be running. So I know Warn makes a premium hub and so does Mile Marker.

The only experience I have with Mile Marker is their 9K winch. Only problem with it was sticky brushes, otherwise a good winch, if a bit slow. So how about the premium hub? How does it compare to the Warn?

Can’t say for certain regarding the external type hubs, but with the internal type common to Ford Chevy and Dodge trucks, Broncos and Blazers, the only difference is the knob mechanism.
The internal locking mechanism on the Warn at least is identical between standard #9790 and premium #20990 models.
In fact when it comes to the internals, I prefer the Standard because the plastic knob is easier to grip with a bare hand, and only takes a quarter turn, instead of the premium three-quarter turn and sharp-ish edges of shallow depth.
Sure it has a metal knob that stands up to abuse using pliers and other metal tools to get it to lock and unlock when you haven’t maintained it inside, but the plastic just works so much better by hand.
Again, that’s for the internal type. Can’t remember last time I had an external apart.

By the way, nice shot of some Armstrong Tru-Trac tires by the way!

Thanks for the responses. This isn't going on a CJ. However I am using the stock hubs and spindle from a Scout II. Dana has used those same spindles and hubs from 1942 up to somewhere in the 80s. I used to have a 68 CJ and abused it well, finally breaking the frame. Here is a really old pic from the 70s

I am building the ultimate XJ, well at least according to me. I already have the rear axle built to the hilt and am accumulating the stuff for the front. But these parts don't really relate to an XJ, so I am using the next best forum on here.

Here is where I am now. I used the OEM Scout II knuckles, the six bolt spindles and then fabricated a bracket for 04 front discs and calipers. So I am committed to using an external hub. I am also committed to using 39.5 tires with internal beadlocks. Hence the question. There is a significant difference in the cost of the Warn and MileMarker.

The answer is no, and yes.
MM and modern Warn use the same basic clutch system so they are pretty much the same there. The locking system (dial) is different.
however,
as stated, earlier models of the Warn hub are stronger. With this comes the balkness of disengaging the direct drive system.

I have Milemarker Premium 457's in my CJ.
I have a fully trussed Dana 30, geared 4.56:1, locking diff, with D44 knuckles, Superior alloy axle shafts, SOA, Hi-steer, D300 xfer with 4:1 gearset, and 35" MT KO3's.
Had those locking hubs for almost 2 years now, they still work the same as the day I installed them.
No problems engaging or disengaging, no funny noises, haven't broken them yet!!

BTW, I also have a Milemarker 9,000 lb winch, but it's hydraulic, slow but bomb proof, and works well under water...
