Cut a can up into 2"x2" pieces and install in license plate light housing

Thanks for solving the mysterious, red blinking light. Very airplane like.
1. Is there supposed to be a light around ignition? I can't see key hole in the dark.
2. Something electrical is draining my battery regularly. Automatic headlights? Seat warmer? Empty cigarette lighter? I don't know. I try to get every electrical item off. Thanks.
