Hello, I recently my bought my second Jeep, a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 in it. I've been thinking about putting an LED light bar on it but need some opinions and advice. I've searched through the forums and found some good info but not exactly answers to the questions I have. I want to know what size will fit best, I believe I read a 40" is the max? And I wanted to buy these mounts that go directly on the rails and then this light bar (I'm on a budget). What do you guys think?

MOUNTS:

LIGHT BAR:

Also, any advice on the install? Such as where to tuck the wire neatly away?

I think that price is ridiculous for those brackets. Get some steel bar stock from Home Depot or Lowes and bend, cut and drill your own for under $20 with fancy stainless bolts.

Same here with my 42 inch, fits nicely on the roof bars. Make your own brackets from hardware store. I used flat steel and got longer bolts. Make sure your light bar comes with wiring or you'll have to buy it elsewhere. Also, the cheaper light bars, a lot of people take them apart and silicon all the seams, they have a reputation of leaking. Mine's a cheapy with the silicone mod. No leaks so far.

Those brackets look clean man, nice job on making those. I already planned on pulling it apart and putting some silicone on to make sure it doesn't leak and I also found the wiring I'm buying separately. This may seem like a sad question but... could you walk me through making the brackets? I understand bending the metal to fit but do I just drill a hole for the bolt to go through? And how does it mount the rails, I'll have to take a look at them because I don't remember seeing a place where the bolt would go in. Sorry I'm still very new to the lighting and I've never made brackets before.

Just skimming over the comments on that link, it does not include wiring harness and several commenters complained of leakage. I got my wiring through Rigid for 30 bucks. Amazon wanted 70. I just took the light bar specs and compared it to the closest Rigid model bar that I could and bought the harness for that light.

Here's some pics. You can see where the plate bent when tightening it. It's still solid. You could always get thicker steel if you wanted, I just didn't want to have to cut anything. You can also see in the picture how the roof bolt goes through the bracket and back down into the original hole in the roof. I can't remember how much longer it was, just measure the new amount of height you will be adding.

Thanks for the pictures and explanation, hope it wasn't too much a hassle explaining it like I'm a 12 year old haha. I definitely understand the making the brackets and mounting it way better now... I haven't ordered the bar yet but I think I'm going with the 40 so I'll just bend mine from the inside out instead the other way around. My last question before I pull the trigger and order these is how did you tuck the wires away? I heard about running the wires through the back of the bars on top, through the tailgate, and then under the side paneling to the front but that's a lot of wire... Any way to maybe run it through the drivers side door up top, down the arm, and through the firewall? I'm decent with wiring so I understand how to do it, just curious of where to run it best. Thanks again !
