How do you re-glue exterior door trim panels?

When I got my XJ one of the exterior plastic trim pieces on the passenger door was very very loose. Since then I have pulled all of them off, removed all remaining adhesive from the door and the plastic trims, and painted the trim a very vicious matte black (looks awesome on the side of the xj). Whats the best product/method to get them to stick back on the doors?

(just for kicks, I used hot melt glue, which worked great for 2 days and just gave out)

x2 and be sure to get actuall 3M brand tape (and the type with the red backing). The off brand stuff may save you a few bucks but it doesn't stick for **** and you'll be back buying the 3M brand in a few weeks/months anyway.

alright, easy enough, now the plastic is kinda warped laterally but has no problem flexing back, will this become a problem with the 3m sticky tape or will it be able to hold?

Thats what I figured, Thanks I'lll do that...

You could always leave them off and paint the door as needed. I did that with mine and thinks it gives it a cleaner look. Mine is also a 1991.
That was one of the reasons I figure I'd pull them off, but really I think it looks better with them on my cherokee because I por-15'd the rocker panel area and the fender flares a sleek jet black so the trim really matches well. I think without it, my cherokee would look more like an old beater. If it was black that'd be a whole different thing. Mine is white

Ooh, THAT caught my eye, do you have a link to those? Approx how much does a set go for?

I think a set in powder black diamond plate would look nice on mine

I was really excited.. and then I saw the price :(

Its not that they're unreasonable, my budgets just kinda tight lately

getting it off my Jeep, I actually used goo gone and then once it was all off I polised and waxed the area, worked great. To get it off the plastic, I am doing that now. I have a heat gun so maybe that'll help

Mine is done! I got some of the 3m adhesive tape. I used a heat gun to get the old tape off the trim panel and it worked REALLY REALLY well, it basically rolled right off. Also used heat gun to straighten out the panel (it was warped) The 3m stuff is VERY sticky so you HAVE to get it right the first stick, it will not come off easy. My brother and I pressed it evenly for 30 seconds and it looks great, pics up soon

How do you remove exterior door trim panels?

Hello,
How were you able to remove your exterior door trim panels? I want to take mine off. I have heard they are glued on but I don't want to damage my car removing them.

I saw an XJ in a body shop the other day with a new paint job and all of them removed and it looked great.

Thanks ahead of time!
