So after getting issue w/ my oil pressure sorted out, i am now having what appears to be transmission problem error code p1762.

this morning after starting the car i put it in Drive and it was extremely slugglish. The sluggishness from drive went away after some driving. Coming home from work i started the car and there was no sluggishness, but as i moved from an idle position the rpms revved up but car would not move. I had to pull over and move the gears from park back to drive and then it was fine

My mechanics has told me that i will need to replace the transmission. Even though i'm only showing currently a P1762 code, replacing that part wuld not solve anything and that the only way to go is to replace the transmission.

Is this accurate? I have about 174,000 miles on the car. 2000 year. I can't afford a transmission and will need to get rid of it if that's the case :(

Thanks
A

I know that the code is for Governor Pressure Sensor. My question basically is if that part is replaced will it solve the problem? It seems like the mechanic is telling it may or may not and even if it does the transmission is on its way out, so i could be temporary fix. Thanks.

I replaced the sensor yesterday and I can sell you good sensor. I had to replace good 2000 type plastic one with 98 type metal one.
I was holding governor body in my hand when I was reading your last post.
Mine is from 42re transmission (4.0 engine)

2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0. I'm not sure what else to include.

This morning cold start same sluggishness moving from idle/stop position. Stopped at a store. turned car off, started car agaim and sluggishness was gone. Jeep sat for 8 hours while at work and on the drive home no sluggishness, none of the hesitation, or revving of rpms after moving from an idle/stop. i don't know what to make of it.

Based on that you should have the 42RE transmission

From what you've described where the problem isn't always there, it definitely sounds electrical/sensor related and not a mechanical issue so the transmission itself is probably fine and doesn't need mechanical work but you'll want to swap out the governor pressure sensor to restore normal operation.

Here's a write-up for the work: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310...forum/f310/42re-p1762-p1763-governor-pressure-sensor-solenoid-write-up-1182260/

Check battery leads

Check your battery leads, my negative wires became loose and threw a P1762. Once I tightened them up, everything is A-OK, especially since I changed my trans sensor and solenoid in attempting to fix the prob.

When next I thought I would need to change my ECM I removed the negative battery post and the wires "fell out" of the lead post. DOH! So I stripped some more copper wire and secured them good, reset the codes, transmission shifts like new.
