I recently bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.6L. Inside the engine bay there is a ground strap bolted to the frame, but the other end is broken off. I can't seem to find where the other end mounted up. I'm guessing it's on the engine block, perhaps behind the alternator, but no luck locating it. Anyone able to help guide me??

Thanks for the help,
Jesse

Behind the alternator on the forward side of the engine mount there's a stud it presses on to. I'll bet the other end is still on the stud, it seems to be a more common thing lately. I think it's $15-20 from the dealer and for me is cheap/specific enough not to try and replicate it.

That's a big jump even for me unless you see other evidence, definitely look. It's more likely the thin stranded wire, tinned copper?, was already crushed into shape to fit the connector and with the location/cycling/design a few will fail. I have 40 year old straps of similar size that I could hang the engine from. It's a cheap part that has been minimized for its job and install. It works fine, I wonder how many people are riding with a broken one, grounds can be the root of many evils. If you want coverage maybe buy two and double up, there's plenty of stud on both ends.
