If it's like my 1994 when you slide under the jeep it will be located right behind your gas tank mounted to the bottom side of your floor board I think it should be round. If i'm wrong someone will chim in im new to the jeeps but learning every day

 

'97 & '98 do not have an in-line filter like the previous years, only the one on top of the filter.

 

That's very odd, because the 1997 service manual talks about a fuel filter when removing/installing the engine and it does not seem to refer to the one on top of the fuel pump.

 

Climb underneath, and look for an inline fuel filter. It is a cylinder about 3 in diameter, 3 inches long. It will be located above the rear drive shaft, or somewhere pretty close to it. I do not know if the 97 had an inline or not, but checking is easy.

 

SJZ is right. I told you wrong and I'm SORRY chekk only 1993 through 1996 models use a replaceable inline filter. 1997 through 1999 models the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. Thats what the haynes manual says.

 

I's also not really a filter. It's just a screen over the pump inlet. Don't worry about replacing it.
