Replace your flasher

 

I did replace recently. Are they supposed to flash?

 

Are we talking about the markers on the flares or on the front of the jeep? If so, then yes. They all flash except for the headlights. At least mine do..

 

my blinkers blink but i dont have side markers :rofl: so i couldnt tell ya

 

Fun fact of the day the older yjs side markers don't flash. I'm not sure where the cut off is but my 88s don't flash but my 94s do. I checked the wireing diagram in my haynes repair manuel and it turns out the are wired different. I don't know if you can convert a non flashing to a flashing but you could replace yours with a newer one and rewire it.

 

True and 99% sure that started in '90.

 

ok with the running lights off the front side marker lights should blink with the front turn signal.
with the running lights on the front maker lights should blink oppsit of the front blinker light.

 

I have 1990 yj and mine blink

 

89YJ, mine do not blink.

 

This is an interesting fact. I did not know this.

 

Neither did I and perhaps I spoke a bit too soon.

You guys had me doubting so I double checked my '88 and definitely no blinky. According to autozone's diagrams there are some differences in the wiring between '88 & '90:

'88 on top - no blink on mine

'90 on bottom - blinks according to posts here

its nothing to just run a wire over from your turn signal lamp to the side marker so it can flash too. we used to do it alot on bmws so the lights on the outside of hte bumpers would flash also

 

I just went over this myself as you see in the diagram the parking lamp hot wire is connected to on side of the side marker and the hot wire from the turn lamp is on the other. Note:When I went to use a led lamp for the side marker I found that the led would not perform like the filament bulb (its a polarity thing) so I ended up using a relay (well one for each side) to make it work like the original lamp did.
