Disabling automatic start/stop on the Wrangler JL.

What are some good ways to do this? My criteria are:
  • The easiest way. I'm not a mechanic or any kind of auto tech.
  • The way that least affects the functionality of the vehicle. I'd prefer not to disable that system, but then have to live with an idiot light on the dash all the time. I dont want to do anything that harms the vehicle in the long run.
  • The cheapest way. I'm willing to throw a few dollars, but not thousands.

So, what has worked for everyone else? BTW, we can spend this thread debating the dubious merits of this system vs. the drawbacks and I'm willing to do that (as you may have surmised, I'm NOT a fan), but my main focus is to learn if there is an easy and safe way to do it, not to learn whether I should do it at all.

I've found that pressing the button to disable it after I press another button to start the engine works well. It is cheap and easy and does not cause a fault light to appear on the dash. That meets the criteria of what you wanted in the list. :)

Pressing the ESS button to turn it off has become as second nature to me as having to press the brake pedal before the engine will start, something I never had to do before I purchased my GC or JLU.

We had no problem pressing the button on the wife's 19 but our son worked at a local jeep dealer as tech and someone traded a wrangler in and left the tazer in the glovebox. He was doing the prep to resell it, which means cleaning it out, and the dealer lets the techs keep whatever they find in the vehicles ao we got a tazer for free.

That little plug in deal lets you do all kinds of cool things to the jeep. One means we no longer have to push the button anymore.

there are pretty pricey if you have to buy it new. i want to say they were right around 275 or 300 when i was looking at them.

you can find them on facecbook marketplace pretty cheap sometimes though. i was going to buy one form a lady in dallas for 50 bucks but my son happened to come home with that one while i was mulling over buying one.

There are several devices on the market. Most quality ones are $100 or more. Stay away from the cheap Chinese ones. The auto stop start eliminator is probably the cheapest at about $100 but that's all it does. The Tazer Mini works well and does a whole bunch of other things such as turns off the tag light when in reverse, can program for larger tires, lockers in 4 Hi, rear camera turns on for turns, etc. That's in the ball park of $300 and for me, it was worth every penny for my Gladiator.

If you buy a used Tazer, make sure it was unmarried from the old Jeep or you will need to buy an unlock code for $100 to make it work.

One of the first things that I did, after getting back home from buying my Cherokee Trailhawk, was to order the appropriate version of this product for it. If the last time you shut the engine off, *SS was disabled, then the next time you start it, it simulates a push on the *SS button to turn it off again. No other effect on the vehicle, no hacks that otherwise may produce any unexpected or unwanted side effects.

It has no other effect on the function of the vehicle.

I will probably also do that /\ when my wife's jeep batteries get to that point.

Cut some excess weight from the jeep, too. Maybe not alot but any vehicle weight loss is a plus for gas mileage and acceleration fun
