(1999 WJ -4.7 -Quadra Trac II- 247 Transfer case)

Does anyone know if a 247 transfer case from a 2001-2004 WJ will fit my 1999? I hunted about online (salvage yards)and listings show that 1999-2000 transfer cases are in some way different than 2001-2004. 2001-2004 Transfer cases are much more numerous and are significantly cheaper.

all the 247's are the same inside.

. Quadra-Trac II NV247 On-demand; includes low-range (2:72:1); single lever transfer case mode operation.

Quadra-Drive NV247 On-demand; utilizes a gerotor coupling in the Quadra-Trac II transfer case and in the Vari-Lok front and rear progressive axles to send torque to the front driveshaft and/or from side-to-side within each axle when wheel slippage occurs; includes low-range (2:72:1) single-lever transfer case mode operation.

. Quadra-Trac I NV147 On-demand; utilizes a gerotor coupling for improved response; high-range only (does not include neutral or low-range positions).

Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - WJ Four-Wheel Drive Systems

only difference between quadra drive and quadra trac is QD has Front and rear Limited slip differentials the case like stated before is the same exact thing.

I found this during my search: Can someone interpret it for me? What bolt is he talking about?

"I actually just got a new 247 for my 99. I picked mine up out a of 2001. the only difference is the front output for your driveshaft. Its just one large bolt on both cases to swap them out. I couldnt find anything for under 600 that was directly a 99 and then i picked up one out of a 2001 for 150. also make sure to run the mopar 247 oil not ATF."

Theres a big bolt (i think its a nut actually?) that holds the front yoke onto the shaft. From what i've heard, you just remove it, tap the yoke off, and push the new one on. I have a newer style yoke for my 99, but since im a lazy jeeper, its sitting in a pile in my garage.

The fluid in most transfer cases is just regular ol' automatic transmission fluid (ATF). The 247, 249, and i think the 245 t-cases require a speciflic fluid that must be purchased at a dealership. The '99 247 cases were originally filled with atf from the factory, but there were some issues (cant remember what) and they all should have been changed over to the special fluid.
Hope this helps!
