CLASS ACTION- LEATHER DASH

Hi! My name is Jamie. I have a 2012 Jeep Overland that is also having a leather dash issue. Initially, I took my Jeep to a leather repair shop and was quoted $4500 to fix it. Then, I found out that Jeep has actually recalled this issue because it was happening so often. When I went to the Jeep dealership, I was given the same run-around that I'm reading that most of you have experienced. I love my Jeep. It's my fourth Jeep and by far my favorite, however, I can't even have someone walk up to my window without questions about what is wrong with the dash. Since Jeep is aware of the issue, has admitted a recall, but then gives everyone the run-around instead of fixing the issue, I am going to start a class-action suit, requiring Jeep to stand behind their products. If anyone is interested in having the Jeep company repair your leather dash, please reply to this message and I will pass along information on how to get on board with this legal solution.

It wasn't a recall, they just extended the warranty for some model years.

I believe there are several suits in the courts.

I also have issues with my dashboard. I did receive the letter for the recall, but took it in after it expired because the dealerships were closed during the Covid. I also sent a letter to jeep expressing the timeframe of these repairs, and got no response so I would be happy to join in a class action to force them to repair these.

Class action lawsuit you get maybe $50 the lawyers (who created the system) makes millions which are ultimately paid by vehicle buyers thru higher prices and the lawyers laugh all the way home from the bank then start another post about needing a class action lawsuit for some other issue

So you enrich some lawyers and cost yourselves bug bucks as automakers pass that cost on to the buyers

I'm not sure if it's too late, but I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 2018 and my dash has come unglued pretty much everywhere. I keep it in my garage except at work. I am under a tree at work, so little exposure to the sun. I also use a sunshade. I tried to get it fixed by an upholstry company put they just stretched it out and it was a waste of money. Has anything happened with the class action?

Crickets. Poster was incorrect on many assumptions. Bad leather work is not a fed case so the safety people would care less. Recalls are for stuff the tends get people in body bags. How many died here do to leather stuff failing? None. No recall by the feds.

Only once in my life received a Class action payment. From AMD think it was like 7 bucks. i was contacted by Newegg. Think the lawer only got 7 bucks? The part i question though flawed is still running like 15+ years in a PC i am writing on.........works dont fix it. That 7 bucks wont fix it anyway and the cost to replace today. I run windows 7 still. Built every Pc i have.

But it could be a safety issue which would demand a recall. I have the same problem with my '17 Overland and was wondering why no one has gone down the safety avenue. Let's say for a moment you are in a frontal collision that causes the air bags to deploy, the leather is supposed to be taught and tears in a certain spot. Suppose the loose leather causes the dash to split in the wrong location, isn't it possible in that scenario the air bag could inflate at a different angle and cause bodily harm/possible death to the occupants? Just a thought....

I am so disappointed in the dash, the paint near sunroof is failing, and decorative interior trim is popping off. It's all Cheep material. Not to mention my TIPM failed me Also.

Dash is so delaminated irs lifting the vent covers at the windshield

I just read this repair procedure elsewhere and watched the video. It appears to be a great solution for a DIY fix when the company will not fix it under warranty.

You can fix this yourself. Being that the dash is leather, and a natural hide, it needs to be treated as such. Leather left out in the sun will naturally dry out and peel up from the edges unless it is periodically moistened (with a hide treatment) and should be done once you fix your problem.

Now, for your immediate problem, you will need a steamer...one of those inexpensive ones for doing clothes will suffice. Steam the dash and pull it taut to stretch it back to its original size. You don't want to saturate the leather, just soften it up enough to where you can stretch it. Once you have it stretched, you can use upholstery adhesive to stick it back to the dash assembly. Follow the instructions on the bottle.

There really any class action that happened? Not that i have heard. Rumor and innuendos it seems. especially since some were giving an extended warranty. It is not a safety issue. The person that said well might affect air bag. Bad news is air bag tend to hurt people all the time. They call that a secondary injury. broken arms, hands, face bones. many times those injuries are the only issue. But they tend to be the only injury as well. no matter how fast the vehicle was going. air bag deploys at 200mph and it is not a pillow.

I have a 2018 Jeep grand cherokee overland with the 5.7 hemi. the dash looks like the mountains I climb. pulling up my air vents damaging the brackets that mount my air events down and the leather is causing more damage. And to every single individual that rides in or see's the dash. I tell them they all do it, including my 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland. It is an anescapable fact of the overland editions. And I want fixed.

Well, they do not all do it. The leather dash in my 2018 GC High Altitude with over 103,000 miles still looks as nice as it did when I bought it 6.5 years ago. I take precautions such as using a sunshade whenever it is going to be parked in direct sunlight on a warm day and I apply a leather conditioner to the dash every few months.

There's a DIY fix for this posted earlier in this thread if you want to give it a try.

Welcome aboard. :)

My 2011 with 100,000 miles looked good. Most of them do in fact, but there are some not so much. I wiped mine down with a damp cloth a couple times a month and use a sun shade when not garaged for more than a few hours.

I have a twenty twenty one jeep grand cherokee, high altitude that I bought last june. It was kept in the garage, and when it wasn't in garage, it had a sun guard up. I have only put four thousand miles on the vehicle since I purchased it ( i had a surgery and was unable to drive 7 months) and the entire dash is peeling up and bubbling. I bought it from carmax in maddison, tennessee and they will not do anything, and neither will jeep. I should not have to pay for something that has been happening to other Jeep owners. I have driven nothing but jeep since 1991, but after this ordeal, I think i'm moving away from jeep. How do I get involved in this lawsuit?

Read near the end of the first message in this thread.

Also, that will get you nowhere. There are several DIY threads on how to fix it for very little cost if you're handy or know someone who is. Read message #17 in this thread for some ideas.
