Can you tow a Patriot with a Tow Dolly?

Gramps-this one's for you, since you're the resident expert here.

I have an '08 Jeep Patriot 5 speed 4x4. It specifically says in the manual that you can't flat tow it. I saw in an RV guide recently that you can tow a Patriot/Compass 5 speed on a tow dolly, although the local dealership says, "No you can't." Who's correct? I don't want to chance it and ruin my awd system. I love driving my jeep, and would like to have it with us when we go for trips (just purchased a 37' Newmar class A motorhome, so I really didn't want to put an 18' car trailer behind it).

Thanks!

So, did anyone get an answer to the question about the '08's being able to be flat towed? Does the '09 owner's manual information pertain to the '08's and '07's as well? I noticed that no where in that information did they mention that it was okay to flat tow either the 2wd or 4wd versions. I know it may sound paranoid, but I really want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Thanks!! :)

John and I have have several private conversations about this trying to work out the discrepancies on information. The conclusion between John, the manufacture and myself is that this set up will work on ALL MK's. Jeep should have made an addendum to the '07 and '08 manuals but they didn't. There are no differences in the drive train from '07 - '09. This info covers both 2WD and 4WD because of the ESP and other electronics involved not FWD or AWD.

Would I do it if mine were a 5 speed - yes. Can I really guarantee it to work for others with out having done it myself? I have to stop short on that but I'll see if I can get John to come back with his first hand results.

Ex = has been

Pert = saucily free and forward; flippant and assured; being trim and chic ; jaunty (a pert little hat); piquantly stimulating (is a pert notion); lively, vivacious.

I may still be some of those but maybe ROG fits better: Resident Opinionated Geezer. :hahaha:

I've emailed John to see if we can get some feedback.
