Throttle Body
65mm (1999-2000)
68mm (2002-2004)

Is there a difference in these years.. Do they bolt up and are all the plugs the same??? Is what I am asking?

I assume you are referring to the 4.7? I know they changed PCM and Idle Air Controllers around 02. Sorry i'm not of much more help than that. They do offer after market TB's though. I think F&B and BBK both make larger TB's for the 4.7
I would like to know for the 4.0
What's the bore on the intake opening? And what's the stock throttle body width?

where did you find those numbers?

I just pulled the intake off an 02 to port and polish it, Ill have to measure the throttle body while its off.

Edit: Just measured the throttle body off the 02 4.0L, 61mm Inlet (before plate) 55mm outlet (after plate). I Believe there is a member here on JF who will bore and polish the throttle body so that its 61mm straight through. I really have no idea why they would neck it down like that after the plate. Seems like a big restriction to me.

Just an FYI....me coming from a performance background.....3mm's is NOT going to get you any noticeable gains unless you port/polish the intake mani...which we cannot do because it's plastic.

Lots of people mess around with making their own intake manifold on LS forums...be aware though and do your research, different intake runner lengths will change torque and HP curves, and if you dont get it right it can drastically lower output numbers...I wouldn't do it if you don't have a dyno close. Plus you would need a way to change your fuel output as well. More fuel and more air equals more HP and Torque

Of coarse you can port an polish a plastic intake!

Porting, just use a dremmel with a sanding drum attachment. (just be careful, it's plastic and a little pressure goes a long way)

Polishing: well I always use armor all to shine up anything vinyl or plastic. Engine dressing works good too.

Sorry, I'm just being a smart a**. Couldn't resist.

3mm's can make around a 5% increase in power and mpg's, plus the increase in throttle response, i have an 02 ram that had a 4.7 in it, went to fastman 70mm, which was 2mm's bigger than the 68mm original one, huge difference! many of us ram guys run them, because there equivalent to getting a superchips tuner, and if u have superchips tuner like i do, it makes them even better! but i wouldnt bother with the 68mm 02 and later ones, just get the fastman throttle body if u want to get any increase, because the stock tune will compensate for the marginal increase in air density from the 68mm

I bought one from the fastman several years ago for my 05 dakota with the 4.7L. While it seemed to add some performance according to the butt dyno it did reduce gas mileage which could have been in part because i could not keep my foot out of it. I also had an issue with the engine reving up when in park sometimes and could never get it fixed.

to get back on topic... Will a 02-04 throttle body fit/work on a 99-01? particularly the 4.0. I can notice only one difference and that is the map sensor looks alot different on a 02-04 version and in fact is not even called that anymore on those.

Will there be pcm issues and check engine light on if a swap is done?
