That was an insane amount of work. Glad you got it all back together. :cheers2: Just out of curiosity, did you get a price from the dealer to do this. I would love to see what they would have charged . Horrible design.

Side air vent replacement

Thanks for the very thorough description of the vent replacement ordeal. Just out of curiosity, does the outside right side vent also require that much disassembly, or is it helped by its distance from the instrumentation?

I could stand to replace my drivers side left one because it won't hold a position. I think I will be using air freshener clips to keep it in place after reading this though!

I have the same problem, my blades drop and the air goes to the ceiling. I was going to replace my vent but after seeing these pictures I'm having second thoughts. I wonder if I can spray something on the blade left and right sides to make them sticky so they don't move as easy, like a sugary soda? Your air freshener clips is a good idea too.

Don't bother, your replacement vent is sure to break as well. Cheap third party supplier. How's that for ISO standards? I may drill a screw into the side to keep it from pointing to the sky, and ultimately 'fix' the vent into position.

My passenger side chrome vent piece broke off back in December. I really miss that little chrome piece, makes the dash look incomplete. After reading this thread, I may just glue the chrome piece back on to complete the look. I am not too worried about the vent function, it stays where I put it (using a screwdriver to move it, lol).

Thanks to all on this thread, My Evap core has sprung a leak. I just found it last night. This thread helps a lot. I'm not looking forward to this.. Now I'm thinking the blend door/heater door box, and maybe the heater core while I've got it all out, I'm at 169K but planning to keep it for a long time.

Wow, just wow. All that for a vent.

At this point I'm pretty confident Chrysler got all their engineers from the liberal arts program at the local junior college. Only way to explain some of the things I've seen on these trucks.

Dash vent repair

I had the same problem, fixed it by placing a strip of black adhesive 3M felt on each side between the vanes and the duct using a pair of tweezers. So far its working great, hopefully the glue can withstand the heat. My Engineering Technology degree is really paying off LOL!

WOW....

The left vent on my '05 has was broke when I got it and I thought about fixing it someday until now. That is a horrible amount of work for little return, not to mention the amount of money it would cost to have the dealer do it. Thanks for the insight.
