Hi, I'm hoping you guys might have an answer to my issue here. I have a 1996 Cherokee Classic which is running very rough, unable to accelerate to freeway speeds, RPMs all over the place, etc. that is displaying the error code P0132 - O2 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank1, Sensor1).

I recently replaced the catalytic converter and downstream O2 sensor, but this was happening before that. I used to have a bunch of other error codes which have been resolved because of those replacements. P0132 is the last one, and that code has been coming up from time to time ever since I got this Jeep about two years ago.

What happens is I clear the error code, take it for a drive, things are looking good, then almost exactly a mile down the road the error code shows up again, and then a mile after that the fun times begin.

We cleaned out the carburetor and that didn't help. Do I need a new engine control computer? Or does the upstream O2 sensor need replacing also?

.... does the upstream O2 sensor need replacing also?
You win the prize ! Inspect the wires and wire plugs to the O2 sensor, and the sensor fuses. O2 sensors can be tested, but if that is the original O2 sensor, it needs to be changed.

You should also inspect your exhaust manifold for cracks.

Possible causes
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open circuit or short circuit
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 poor electrical connection
- Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1
- Inappropriate fuel pressure
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks
- Exhaust gas leaks

Its amazing to me how common that issue with the header is. Mine cracked, I went to the junk yard to find a replacement and every XJ had the crack in the samed spot. Luckly I found one that had already been welded.
