Hello,
I am working on a 1989 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 with the 4.2L inline 6 cylinder carbureted vehicle that has some vacuum leaks. There are quite a bit of vacuum circuits on this vehicle and I just need help identifying a few circuits, controls and hoses that I am not sure where they go or what circuits they are for. I was able to figure out many of the items with the vacuum diagrams and other forum posts but a few of these were not properly connected hoses just left loose or broken off and I need some assistance just to verify everything.
The first image is a dryer vent type looking hose that seems to come from exhaust manifold and goes to a vacuum controlled diaphram circuit on the airbox. I was thinking it is part of the EGR system but it seems relatively clean inside for something that would be moving exhaust gasses. I would like to know what its function is and if there is a way to delete and/or a source that has a replacement? Ideally we are trying to reroute vacuum circuits from the airbox to do an airbox delete for a filter directly on the carb to clean things up a bit but depending on how problematic some of these emissions systems are the plans may change.
second image is the 3 solenoids/switches near the back of the valve cover; the hose on the back of the most right one was just left loose and I am having trouble figuring out what it is for. From what I can tell from the vacuum diagram I have for the vehicle the other two are for the exhaust air injection system but for the one in question it just says solenoid and has the line that is loose going to the carb but I do not see a T that is missing a hose in carb area. Can someone tell me what this solenoid controls and where it is supposed to connect on a factory system?
The last image contains two vacuum lines with what appear to have one way vacuum check valves. I think the shorter one goes to the airbox does the longer one go down to the vacuum ball for the 4x4 engagement control? Can someone Confirm location and function of these two lines?
Any help is appreciated!
Jon
