I bought a 99 cherokee back in feb the 4wd part time light on the dash does not come on when I put it in 4wd so today I tore the dash apart and took the cluster out and the bulb is not burnt out but I switched it out anyways just to make sure then I tested it by putting it in 4wd still nothing, so im confused is there something I am missing? I would like to get this to work and you guys are genius lol so help would be great thank you

i as well have a 99 with the same problem. at one time i cared, and searched google and found answers. its the sensor on top of the transfer case. there is a way to test it but i don't exactly remember. try searching here and cherokee forum. its a common problem. i decided not to fix mine cause i know it works, i don't need a light to tel me it is!

One tip: Before removing the 4x4 indicator switch, clean the area around it with compressed air or something. If you do not, crap can fall in. Also find out what transfer case you have, then search for images of it to find out what the switch and wire connector look like.

My part time light started an intermittant flickering, and found out is most likely was the vacuum operated switch going bad. For the NP231, I remember a somewhat tight area to work with, using sense of feel rather than sight. So a little awkward but straight forward. I think it would fall in the "It took me five minutes, man..." category.
