42re Tranny Code P1757 ?

Code reads: Governor pressure greater than 3psi when told to be 0psi.
Or on DRB display: Governor pressure above 3psi in gear with 0mph.

Question is should i change the fluid/filter and install a new governor pressure solenoid and transducer to fix this problem?

A little while before this code came up trans started slipping from a dead stop with any incline untill it picked speed up.

My ZJ is a 97, 4.0l, auto-42re, , np242

I might have a good governor pressure sensor if you want to try one. I got a little water in my trans and it threw the code but put a brand new one in and no difference so I could only assume that the old sensor is good, I wouldnt mind lending it to test and see before you bit the bullet on the cost. i think I paid like 120 for my sensors.

What was the governor pressure indicating while sitting still? Just curious because anything above 0-1.5 PSI is not normal. Im not sure if you actually had a slip concern or that it was taking off in a higher gear. If the gov press circuit fails it usually defaults to maximum pressure which should give you a 3rd gear start, or if higher than normal then maybe a 2nd gear start or very rapid upshifts, any of those could feel like a slip. I would assume you need a gov press sensor/transducer and solenoid. Change filter and fluid, I would also consider checking the band adjustments while you at it, at least the low/rev band since its adjustment is above the filter inside the trans.

It said my pressure was above 3psi at 0mph.
Also trans doesn't act up till i drive for 15-20min first, then it starts.
On the way home tonight i stopped on a small incline, tried to go and felt like it slipped. Stopped and put it in 1st, worked fine.
I'm ordering a gov press sensor/transducer, changing filter, fluid, and doing band adjustments then.
Anyone know the band adj. turns out for sure? I've seen lots of post with different
numbers.

Band adjustments below, you might have seen different numbers because of different transmission models?

Rear band (low/rev)
Loosen lock/jamb nut and back off 5-6 turns.
Tighten down adjusting screw to 72 in/lbs (inch pounds)
Then back off adjusting screw 4 turns (42RE & 44RE) 2 turns (46RE)
Then hold adjusting screw and tighten lock nut to 25 ft/lbs (foot pounds)

Front band, (2nd gear/kickdown)
Loosen lock nut and back off 3-5 turns
Tighten adjusting screw 47-50 in/lbs (inch pounds)
Then back off adjusting screw 3-5/8 turns (42RE), 2-1/4 (44RE), 2-7/8 (46RE)
Then hold adjusting screw and tighten lock nut to 30 ft/lbs (foot pounds)
