I'm thinking about putting 245/70/17 tires on my WK, a little bigger then stock. From the FAQs I gather that these tires will fit without any bolt cutting or mods.

My question that hasn't been answered is if this size tire will fit in my spare tire bay.

If anyone has tried installing this size tires on their WK your advice/experiences would be appreciated!

Worst case if you have the tow hitch you have to cut some bolts, but more than likely it will fit without any mods. I had to cut mine to fit 255/75/17

The 70 is just a percentage of the width which would be 265. So the 265/70/17 is much taller then the tire I want to install.

i was wondering the same thing but with 265/70/17 good luck bro

i just got 245/70's put on today and there's no rubbing at all so far...i think once i get a spare it will fit with no mods since it's only 1" bigger in diameter than the stock spare

First measure how much clearance you have currently with the stock spare. Then calculate the diameter of the tire that's there now and divide by 2. Then calculate the diameter of the 245/70/17 and divide by 2. Then subtract the smaller number from the larger number. If the clearance you have currently is bigger than the radial difference between the 2 tires you're golden. If not, you'll have to cut something.

I would like to see a set of 245/70/17's on the WK. A little taller than stock, but same width.

245/65/17's came stock on my Jeep.

245 65 17 - 29.5" (Radius 14.75")
245 70 17 - 30.5" (Radius 15.25")
265 70 17 - 31.6" (Radius 15.8")

To go from a 14.75" radius tire to a 15.8" you only need to trim about .5" off the back of the hitch and bolts. Therefore we can assume there is .55" of clearance of a stock tire, so going up .5" will be snug depending on tread but shouldn't require any modification. If anything maybe grinding the bolts a little, but they shouldn't even need to be chopped off like they are to fit a 265 70 or 255 75.

I don't know who would go out of their way to put on a larger size of the Forteras.

I'm fairly sure that 245/65/17 is what came stock on my WK.

They are still on the stock wheels in my garage. I'll check to make sure when I get home.

i am running 245/75s on stock rims...BFGs KM2s....when new, there was about 1.5 cm clearance between rubber and the UCA bolt...no cutting required...

i'm running the HD OME lift but that doesn't effect UCA bolt clearance...

I rub a bit at full lock, but i have to be at full lock held over...not an inconvienince to me...can still parallel park in DC when needed....
