30 mile trip on last Thursday. Left home and got 2.5 miles, service shifter dinged on, trans tried to shift to P at highway speed. Shifted back to D, and continued. During the trip it started trying to shift to park more frequently, then 11 miles from dealership, it would not shift back to Drive, and had to coast into a parking lot to call a RollBack. Loaded it with difficulty an hour later, would not stay in Nuetral, Hauled 11 miles to dealer and I had to put it back into Reverse 7 times to get off the roll back. Was pulled into service on Friday, NO CODES. Test drove Saturday and service shifter message came up, but it did not shift gears! A Shifter Module has been ordered and a STAR Case has been opened with Technical. They say no cases like this on the New L is recorded? Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve L, 5978 miles when towed in, Has anyone seen anything like this? Shifter Module is over 5 days out on order? HELP?

Well not a new jeep but the shift assembly on a JK that would be used from 12-18. I have to replace 3 times in 10 years. Though it did not do what your does. THe issue with these was Dust intrusion kills the contacts and it will only work in auto mode not manual. I use manual mode near 100% of the time as well, off road mainly heep.

The fix was total Bush craft. Bought a new one and sealed it in duck tape. this one is now lasted 4x longer, though now that is said that it will go out again. Murphy listens, Fubar follows.

It was ordering to go to park, message on dash said speed too fast to shift. Looks like it is at home in the shop for now, at least 5 days for shifter module, then see from there. Star case has been iniated for this problem. I was limping it back when it would not re engage Drive, had to give up and call wrecker.

There have been cases like this discussed in the WK2 forum over the years since the 8 speed was introduced. I don't recall the resolution off hand, but will try to find a couple threads on the subject when I get back. Just saying its nothing new, but rare. I think the error messages while driving had something to do with the engine stalling.

Started a Chrysler Customer case Yesterday, parts (shift module) tracked today, they were given a 6/7/22 ETA for first parts, no response from Chrysler from the Star Case that was put in by Dealership 5/27/22. I begin to wonder if anyone really CARES about these vehicles? Edit: How long must a vehicle be inoperative before you start Lemon Law Procedings? My Summit Reserve Grand Cherokee L was towed in on 5/26/22 from a disabling roadside breakdown with 5978 miles on Odometer. In service date was 12/22/2021. This Jeep had a Service 4wd light come on in January 22 when we had a snow storm. I have papers from dealership that say Chrysler has no idea of what is wrong with it, they instructed to reset the code, and send car back to owner without repairs!

Hello! I'm glad I found your post, as I am having similar issues with my 2021 Grand Cherokee L - Overland. I noticed a slight hesitation and jerking when the vehicle shifted between the first 3 gears, then again at highway speeds with the overdrive shifting in and out. Then the Service 4WD System light came on. It would randomly come on and off that day and I called my dealership and dropped off the vehicle to see what was going on. Long story short, the dealership has had the vehicle 2.5 months now and determined it was the transfer case. They had to send codes to Chrysler for approval to repair the car, received approval, then had to seek approval for Chrysler to ship out a new transfer case - which the ultimately did. New transfer case was installed and tested and new codes came up from a computer that controls the front axle interlock and they have determined that to be the root cause of he first transfer case failing. Now we are waiting on Chrysler to authorize/ship parts, which are now expected by December 1st. Let me just say my Dealership has been fantastic to work with on this issue - its just disappointing a vehicle has to have approval from its manufacturer to get warranty repairs and parts - and we all have our fingers crossed this will repair it. I've asked about the Lemon Law (based on how long the car has been out of service) and the Dealership really doesn't know the answer. Super frustrated, I love the vehicle and it a gorgeous SUV, thank goodness I have a good dealership to work with.

Reality. They can hardly build what they can. They have few if any extra parts. I would bet that will get worse too. What they sell today wont be around too long since the change is in the air and ICE is out as they scramble to go Ev that they as well have very little experience in.

i wont be buying anything new ICE. Like paying for what will be a orphan soon. If i needed a DD<retired. I have to say it would be a Tesla. They been doing it longer, have the best software / programming in house. Plaid is a beast as well.

So i have this 26 year old truck still that i bet will go another 200k and out live me. Simple to fix and gets 17 mpg. Old school coal burner. No smog even in Cali it would be exempt. I dont live there but just saying.

You know why these new cars are so unreliable? They forgot the most important thing of design..KISS Keep It Simple Stupid......Todays stuff is as if Rube Goldberg him self is doing the design.

That sounds like the Telsla markeing that they flood the internet with, The reality is they have more software glitches and electrical problems than any other EV, more than Jeep. My neighbor is frustrated by his, always something breaking. The other rub with Telsla is they advertise tremendous range but in the fine print you will see a warning to not charge it more than 80% as that damages the batteries... Other manufactures don't let you damage batteries and advertise range about 80% of what Telsa does. They do have a good charging network, however..

Just saying to look past the marketing, there may be better options, there are a lot of them now days. I have a Mini SE for use around town and sporty driving.

You also don't get the $7000 federal tax credit with Telsa :)

Upon checking Lemon Law requirements, I find that under North Carolina Lemon
Law, if after 4 attempts to repair an issue and it is still there, OR vehicle being OUT OF SERVICE for 20 days in one year disabled, Then they will go after purchase price paid, including finance charges. The MANUFACTURER pays for all costs of the litigation. Only question is, this car was TOWED in because it refused to reengage the transmission in Drive, and I was forced to turn off the road. Does all the 12 days disabled while waiting on parts count towards the car being out of service?

Best person to ask would be a NC Lawyer, but I would guess the answer is yes. It is still disabled for the same reason it was towed in with and is unusable. Unless the dealership can prove that it has been functioning in that timeframe, I don't think the countdown clock stops. You might get it back a little quicker if you point out that by NC law they have 8 days left to get it repaired, unless your plan is to just go for the Lemon Law refund, which will take a while to actually work through.

Received a call from Dealership on 6/8/22. They installed new shifter module, but the plug fell off of the old one due to a bent pin. Was told they test drove it 35 miles and it operated properly after repairs. Gonna pick up tomorrow and see what happens!

Repair Notification to help out others....Dealership got the Shifter module in on 6/7/22, When they went to install it, The plug fell off in their hand. There was a bent pin in the plug and it was not properly mated. Tech repaired the bent pin, Installed the new Shifter Control module. Car was road tested and issues did not reappear. I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one, I am tired of driving my 2 row Overland WK, instead of this L when we go somewhere! Finally got a call back from Chrysler Case Manager 18 days after I filed a repair case! I guess this is the quality of customer care when all of them are "NOT Working From Home". After years of owning a Jeep, I am seriously questioning whether or not I will purchase another one, If this is an example of the NEW Customer Service!

FWIW, I am hearing very similar stories from customers of other totally unrelated manufacturers.

The cause of all my issues, Funny Shifting, Service 4WD, Trying to shift to park while driving at freeway speed!, all of this culminated in being towed in when the car refused to shift back into drive, and forced a wrecker to haul me in to the dealership. The service shifter message kept coming up, So they ordered a shifter module for it. I told the service advisor that it had what was called Loose Wire ITIS from the navy. As a fellow veteran, he knew exactly what I was describing. I fought with Chrysler Care, and finally got parts, and 1/2 month of my car payment while it was down!, As they went in to replace the shifter module, The wiring plug FELL OFF OF IT, There was a bent pin. The pin was replaced and new module installed. It was test driven then, The service Advisor drove it home that night, Drove it back in cold the next morning to verify operation! I have driven it for 5 months and 6K miles without any further hiccups. I love our Summit Reserve Grand Cherokee L since that issue has been repaired! Good luck and show this to the dealership personnel to check the plug on the shifter control module. Kevin
