2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee DRL / Headlight Confusion

Hello, I recently purchased a used 2013 JGC Laredo and am having difficulty understanding the headlight function, specifically the DRL operation. The headlights closest to the grill have the Jeep picture stamped on them and I understand this means they are HID headlights? The low beams operate off these outer headlights. However, the high beams operate very brightly on the inner lights closest to the grill. I cannot get the DRL's to operate in any switch position, including auto or "On" position. I saw a post where the switch needs to be in the "Off" position with the emergency brake released and the vehicle in gear in order for the DRL's to operate, but that didn't work either. It almost seems like the HID lights were added as an option to this Laredo package (there is a sticker inside the door frame that indicates the vehicle has HID's). Any ideas as to what I can do to activate the DRL's?
Thanks in advance.

OEM DRLs only work when headlights are off (parking lights can be on), engine running, transmission in drive, perhaps reverse.

HIDs (Bi-xenon headlamps) were not available from the factory on the 2013 Laredo. HID DRLs are a separate bulb closest to the grill. DRLs were a Lareado option in the US market and only available in the All-Weather package I think, which also included the two speed transfer case. Depending on the market, the optional Laredo DRLs shared the high or low beam bulbs and were driven at a lower voltage.

There may be DRL relays in the power distribution center that affect its operation. If the relays are pulled, DRLs may be disabled.

Many have had their dealer activate the DRLs and its just a matter of checking the activate DRL box. You can also change it to Canada mode, but that has some other side effects.

If you have aftermarket or hacked headlights, dunno. I think there is a link in the FAQ sticky thread on how to get a build sheet and find out what was installed at the factory.

Doesn't make sense, may have been modified/hacked. OEM HIDs only use the inner lights for DRLs. Both high and low beams are controlled by the shutter and illuminated by the outer bulb. HIDs will also have a leveling motor and ballasts.

Not sure if the 2013s are different, but with my 2014 Laredo you can turn the DRLs on or off with the Uconnect entertainment system. Don't remember exactly where, but there is a page where you can choose to turn the DRLs off so they never come on. If your 2013 is similar, the previous owner may have "turned off" the DRLs.

Thanks, the 2014 is different I believe, the 2013 doesn't have a Uconnect DRL option. I've since determined that my Laredo has the Halogen headlights. My confusion began when I read a post that said if the outside headlamps have a Jeep symbol on them then they are HID, which is incorrect. I believe I just need to determine if I need to enable the DRL option in the vehicle software. I've ordered an OBD2 connector and Jscan on my phone to try to enable it. Thanks again.

Good intentioned folks sometimes post their guess which can be misleading or incorrect. The nature of the interweb... :)
