i just bought a shark fin antenna for my 2012 GC and can't figure out how to get the oem mast off of the roof. Can someone please help?

It just unscrews counter clockwise. If its tight you may be able to grab near the antenna mast base gently with a pair of pliers.

Unscrew the mast, connect the shark-fin pigtail to the base, carefully glue it over the antenna base (they usually use double sided tape).

The satellite and GPS antenna are in the base that the sharkfin covers. The sharkfin is mostly plastic and doesn't appear to shield or interfere, the fin itself contain only AM and FM antenna elements.

Looks are subjective, but I think the sharkfin is too big, like the mast better... but that's just me. I don't think the fin gets in the way of roof rack loads, however.

Get an OEM SHARK fin

Don't waste your time with a clunky odd shaped cover up shark fin.

Buy a 2014 OEM shark fin 5091352AC, or get your dealer to get you the painted one TO MATCH your car color.

If your 2011-2013 wk2 only has AM/FM get a 5091902AA and the connectors are plug and play.

Most people on here will have navigation Sirrius and am/fm and need the 5091352AC.

This one uses a double blue fakra connector and is why all the noobs say it won't work.

There are no pre made fakra adapters for this application. So go on fleabay or Google and look up a double Fakra C male connector, and some rg179 coaxial.

The double c fakra male will plug into the double fakra c female that is on the new antenna. The green wire side of the double c fakra is the Sirrius/NAV signal. So this wire will need to have a single FAKRA K female (green) connector to plug into your wk2 fakra k male that is up in your roof.

The other side of the double fakra c connector will simply butt splice to the gray w/red tracer wire in your roof. This will supply power to the "amplified" antenna.
I suggest just cutting off the black power connector and the green fakra k female of your mast antenna if it's broken. If it's not broken and you want to sell it, try to find those exact connectors on flebay too.

The white fakra connector for am/fm is direct plug and play.

Enjoy!

Got my sharkfin not long after I got my Jeep in 2012. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with radio signals or Sirius. Also, since my Jeep is White Gold, not a color used today, the 2014 will not work for me. The company I purchased my sharkfin from painted it White Gold. Unfortunately I screwed up the paint job by trying to be 100% perfect since there was a little white spot where they obviously cut out the piece from the mold. Using touch up paint over areas, then another are, then another, it just got worse and worse the more I tried to hide my mistakes. It look like a mess from the side, but since I'm not over 6' tall I can't see the horrible mess I made.

The two part numbers I gave are both textured black and neutral to work with all color vehicles, like the original base/mast style.

I was just saying there are other part numbers if want the painted versions.

1yg06axrae For example is the brilliant black crystal. That's what I used on my 2011 overland.

So you believed what a bunch of low level paid guys who couldn't really care less about your desires to upgrade your older model said? These dudes stare at a computer screen looking at a bunch of half *** drawn black and white schematics and read 5 word descriptions of their parts.

Again, it's not a direct plug and play... so no, for the dumb, timid, retarded, scared it can't be done. If you have any skill or knowledge about coxial and simple wire connectors you can do a minor mod that takes less than hour and it will work.

I'll post photos of mine later tomorrow..

I have a 2011 overland. Mast got sheared off by garage door. I bought the new mast but couldn't get the sheared bolt out of the old base. I tried to use an easy out and it stripped the nut in the base so I had to remove base entirely. On a whim I tried the 2014 shark fin and quickly figured out how to change the connectors for it to work.
All is golden. Been riding solid for a couple weeks now.

What year? Early models you had to pull down the headliner a bit and undo a clip or two.

The OEM antenna base snaps into the hole in the roof (it has two retaining tabs). Then its bolted from the inside (one bolt). The mast screws onto the base. If the base wobbles, you could get a water leak into the headliner there. If it wobbles you may have a broken clip. You can try pushing down on the base and see if it snaps into place. I don't think I've read of anyone here that busted the base, however. Plenty of masts have been destroyed, however.

Aftermarket Sharkfin antennas are double sided taped to the roof over the base.
