I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 65th Anniversary Edition. I have owned it since 2006, original owner, purchased from dealership. Has 130k miles on it, mainly highway. It is a 3.7L V6 engine
Since owning the vehicle, it has gone through 3 Catalytic converters, 2 exhausts, and most recently a transmission rebuild of the "Soft parts"? I got a lot of technical mumbo jumbo, but it seamed to fix the code, and made it drivable. AAMCO fixed the transmission and it is still under warranty with them, and willing to look at it, but the guy kinda seamed like he won't fix it, saying it's an electrical issue... This shop also "broke" an O2 sensor and is replacing it, when they installed the transmission. So who knows... 3k later...
Well, NOW I am having a "Transmission Overheat, Check Gauges" Message come on in the screen that usually shows the Temp and Compass.
I go to turn on the vehicle and this comes on, and stays on, and the engine won't turn over. I hear something click once, and that's it, if I turn the key on and off again I still get the same message and a single click. It is only clicking once under the engine for every attempt to turn it on, all the things operate in the jeep, radio, lights, alarm, gps, etc...
The other thing that it's doing is a bunch, I mean a BUNCH of other lights are on as well. ABS, airbag, seat belt, check engine, and some others I have never even saw before. ALSO the selector screen, one on left that shows [P] [R] [N] [D] etc also shows that all are selected. Normally it shows the [] bracket around which gear? you're in, and now shows boxes around everything.
I am at a loss... this problem happens intermittent, but seams to happen only when the car is left in park in hot areas (i.e. in the sun of a parking lot, no shade)
The battery looks good, there is a little window showing Green, Yellow or Red, and it is green on the battery right now.
One other thing that I forgot to mention, the other morning, it started, but things began to come on, on the panel (again abs, oil, etc), I gave it a little gas and everything started to flash, then went off, and it was drivable for the day. Today it got me to work about 15miles no issues, no overheating warning etc... So I drove it to work, went to go to lunch, and the issue occurred again....
I don't have the money to even get it towed to the dealership, times are tough at the moment, and with the transmission being 3K plus a few months ago, still battling to pay it off.
Do you guys have any advice? I have done a lot of research, and it seams some people have said it could be a starter? Something about a yellow wire? I am car stupid... If it were a firearm, I could field and detail strip and troubleshoot every problem for even some of the more advance weapons out there, but with vehicles, I have zero experience dealing with issues and have been at the mercy of the mechanics....
