Ok guys. Heres my story.. I bought this WK with this issues so it didnt happened after I bought it. It had boxed around PRND but it disappeared after I replaced the ESM. Now, its PRN3 so limp mode and it wont shift.. blah blah same old story everywhere in this forum.

I took it to dealership to have code checked plus have them diagnose the issues and hopefully its shift solenoid pack. I got an email from them said that its internal failure and quoted me 1k to drop it and find the issue or replace the transmission for 6.5k. They didnt drop the pan which is very STRANGE to me. I will drop the pan on monday to see the debris if theres any. If theres significant amounts of debris then I will replace the transmission.

Now my question is 545rfe is available in dodge durango/ram so can I get 545rfe from those trucks and swap it into my grand cherokee? I dont see any issues with that but I want to confirm it. Also, can i get 2wd 545rfe then swap the transfer case adapter to 2wd 545rfe?

Thanks!

If it were mine I would be getting a code reader and finding out what codes come up and clear them and go for a drive to find out when the trans actually goes into limp mode. Then pull the codes again.
The 545 is notorious for splitting filters . I think 6.5k is waaay too much even for a dealer. I know the 545 from a commander works for sure but they might be as hard to find.

AGREE- good plan
as mentioned above scan for codes- then clear and drive suggestion is a second look and FREE.

use a SCANNER.
I agreed with you about scanner. This is what I pulled for first time when I bought the jeep. I test the shift solenoid and all solenoids are within OHM rating. Im not sure about 545rfe but I have a hole right beside the transmission oil pick up tube ( where long neck filter go) I dont know if thats normal or not.

Not sure about the hole thing but Have you checked the fluid level?
It should be nice and red with no cream or metal flake in it . Does it smell good ?
If you have fluid then you need to erase all the codes and drive the vehicle around gently. If you don't erase the codes then the trans will stay in limp mode and you can't tell what's going wrong. Make note of how it shifts, if it shifts, and when the engine light comes on to signify TCM codes. Take your scanner and write down the codes right away.sometimes you can clear the codes and limp it back home easier. Then let's see what comes back
Good luck

You replaced the "ESM" (I assume you're talking about the main computer on the passenger side near the firewall, PCM) and now you're seeing incorrect gear ratio faults? I would make sure you purchased the correct PCM for your vehicle since it also controls transmission functions. Sounds like there's a conflict in what it's seeing vs. what it's programmed to see?
