1998 Wrangler TJ (2.5L serpentine belt replacement)

Hello all,
First post to the forum.

I recently bought a stock 98 wrangler with a 2.5L 4cyl engine.
I have some issues with the serpentine belt up front. It's noisy and needs to be replaced.
I bought a Haynes book from Autozone...but am coming up short with answers on the serpentine belt.

How difficult is it to replace a serpentine belt?

Biggest thing is make sure you have the correct length belt for the options and make a diagram. The rest is easy. 15 minutes or so.

Why is the belt noisy, check all your pulleies, bearings.

Before you think about cutting the old belt off, make sure your tensioner isn't frozen. The tensioner has a set bolt at the center of the pulley, then it can be loosened by the threaded rod, just make sure that's all free & moving before you go too far.

Thanks all for the advice.

I'm not sure why the pulley's are noisy. It seems to quiet down after I've been driving for about 15 minutes.

Literally have had the car about 2 weeks....looking forward to some good advice on here!

Return the Haynes manual and get the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Factory Service Manual (FSM).

Nothing else comes close to having the information you need for working on your new to you TJ... HTH

With a new belt now is a good time to replace pulleys- they are a sinch.
