Hello,

My daughter's 2012 Liberty 3.7 w/205K miles showed a misfire code on #4. We changed the plugs, coilpack and wires but it's running like crap. smells like raw fuel and will barely pull itself. Compression checks good. leak down was good. The spark plugs look good except for the front two on the passenger side both of those are sooted up bad. I am wondering if we have those two swapped.

Right now I am waiting for a gasket for the valve cover we have off to arrive or I'd just switch them to find out. . Can any of you tell me, or show me a pic, of how those 3 wires run from the driver's side to the passenger side? I cannot find a diagram on line.

Thanks
Mark

Thanks jtec I do not have a reader here right now. What I am looking for now is confirmation on spark plug wire routing. The coils are on 1,3,5. do the wires run straight across? ie 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6?

Well....

The initial misfire was probably resolved with the new coil and wires. The subsequent issues with #4 and #2 fouling were due to those wires improperly installed (swapped). No I didn't do the wires but it was just a mistake that won't likely happen again. FYI I have found the wires are numbered as to which cyls they run to right on the casing. Live and learn.

Well I am back. Even though the motor is running smooth as glass she is getting a code for misfire on number 4 and a Catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 2). The check engine light is coming on about every 30 miles with the issues. since it was #2 and #4 that had the wires swapped I am wondering if we plugged up the cat on that side, is that side bank 2? I just swapped plugs between 4 and 6 to see if the problem moves.

What do I do about the cat fault, replace it. In the old days I'd just cut it out or bust up the guts. Afraid these newer cars might be too smart for that.
