15X10 rims on an XJ?? Yes or no...

Yeah, I'm trying to visualize what they would look like, but I have nothing to use as a reference. I wasn't planning on using tires wider than 10.5", but with a 10" rim I would go at least 12.5. I definitely don't want anything wider than that. Any turning issues with wider tires?

Jeep will get front and rear trim jobs and bastard pack lift.

If you guys say so I'll let him buy them.

I would definitely not run a 10.50" wide tire on a 10" rim. I see 12.50 pushing it but that is just me. I would run 12.50 tire on a 10" wide beadlocked rim so I wouldn't have the chance of blowing a bead with them.

My buddy has 15/10 rim on 31/10.50/15 with I think 3.75 backspacing, not completely sure on the BS.

My bad... I would be running 15X8 rims with 10.5 tires. I'm mostly curious about 12.50s on 10" rims and how that would look/handle up front? If they fit alright I'll let my son grab the used rims and we'll go 12.5s. Otherwise, we'll go with 8 inchers.

I have to agree that 10" is wider than ideal. Not to say that it wouldn't work for simple DD'ing though.
I run 35x12.5x15 tires on 8" rims and don't air down to less than 15psi, at which point I still have occasional issues with mud or tree bark bead contaminations causing seepage.

I run psi < 15 often in my 33x12.5x15 MTZ's on 15x10 rims. I have not had bead blowing issues and run blues and blacks.

I was concerned at first, but have found myself down ~12 psi and all was well.

I got a good deal on my wagon wheels or I would have probably ran 8" rims too.

For a DD and even moderate wheeling, 15x10 is fine.

They're fine for a lot more than just simple DDing, I haven't had an issue yet running 15x10 in Big Bear, Cleghorn and tons of local trails. Yes you can't air down as much and you're more likely to blow a bead.

This is a perfect picture. I was curious about the profile of the tire. I'm old skool and ignorant, and I don't want that bulging-tire-mounted-on-too-narrow-a-rim look. My son is 14. His XJ will be "done" when he is 16. I'm accumulating things! It will mostly be DD. So no steering issues? I understand about the 33s, and I will cut the wheel wells, plus ~3" of lift. The PO of my CJ5 wore the front fenders away with too large a tire, by scrubbing when he turned. I want to avoid that.

I was thinking that picture would work nicely for you, and I understand about the whole too-narrow rim look. Makes me gag every time, as for the 15x10's they're not bad. I'm honestly looking for some 15x8's because I prefer the look and the fact I can air down more.

Thanks D. Going back over this I see I got it wrong! I meant to say bulging tire on too WIDE a rim... but you get my point.

So the general consensus is 15X10s with 33s is okay on the front of an XJ?

Yes it's ok.

Either 8" or 10" is going to be fine.

I like my 10" stance, it looks good and you can still air down very low when you wheel.
