I got called out on my signature for my custom intake. So I figured I better post some pictures of what I made. I enjoy messing around in my shop with some of my tools. I made this aluminum intake tube to replace the crappy one that comes on the OM642 engine a while ago. I had the orange intake seal and it was leaking on my swirl motor. I was going to do an elephant mod anyway. So instead of buying another crappy tube just so I can have a black seal I figured I would tig weld up an intake tube that will flow alot better than stock. I bought some 3" aluminum mandrel bends, two silicone connectors, and various SS band clamps to hold it together. Below are some pictures of the tube during the process. I am not a big fan of chrome or shiny stuff so I painted it black to match the original one. When I did this I also did cut the airbox intake tube behind the grill so I pulls in air from the grill than off the radiator. We call this a zoodad mod in the Ford 6.0 world so that is what I will call it. It does have a little better throttle response. I am not sure about more power, maybe a little.

Thanks. My last tank of 70% city was 22.47 mpg calculated. I drove to Colorado with the family loaded down last month and got 24.87, 24.95, 24.81 with cruise set 80 - 85 and some 90-100 mph blasts to pass morons. Also my wife got ticket in CO doing 72 in a 55. Jeep rides smooth and gets to 72 too quickly was her excuse. I probably could get 26-27 if I ever drove 55.

hahah that was me that asked

thats sick man
ive always wanted something like that, the stock one is a joke

Ya I know. I wanted to respond, but didn't want to derail that thread. Thanks for the compliment. I would like to see more people with the Custom Spooling Tune. I think its the cat's meow. I think GDE makes a good product, but I wasn't going to settle until I got DPF and EGR deletes. Custom Spooling has done a great job and they have awesome customer service.

Do you have a pic of how or where you modified the air intake to the box?
I do not currently. I will take one. I just cut the end of the tube so it doesn't pull as much air off the radiator. I am trying to fab up a duct to get air straight from the grill. Only problem now is I get a bit more bugs in the air box. I clean it out once a month or so. I use an Amsoil dry filter.

Those are some good #s. What does your exhaust consist of? Do you have the DPF delete?
Check out my thread on my exhaust setup. "WK CRD Custom Exhaust for Custom Spooling Tune"

JediKnight, Thanks. It has been a long road, but its getting there. I have a few more things to get and will be just about done.

Have you made or considered making an air tube to replace the "kidney bean" turbo resonator?

You've done great work so far and it doesn't look like you're ever afraid of a challenge.
No i have not made one yet, but there might be something coming soon on this.

Thanks.

Mine doesn't look like a kidney bean... I have the other version of resonator. It's cylindrical and look shorter then the bean version. Don't know which one is better and I dont think whatever version makes any difference performance wise. The down side of it is that it's impossible to take out of the engine bay without removing the cooling fan (bottom passenger side is no go here). However it is possible to gut it while inside the engine bay.

See picture of air intake tube cut. I finally got my grill off to take a pic.

I am trying to find a similar hose coupler that you have connected between the intake tube and the turbo? What are the dimensions? it looks larger where it on nets to the turbo? Thanks!
